Yeah, I figured...

We may not have that much food, lol!

It's only 43 quarts, but it is cavernous!, lol!!!

Then leave the ice jugs in there to take up space even if they are only cold water

More testing info...

The frozen jugs are still in there.

Internal temps on the skin of the frozen water jug = 19.3f
I used one of those laser dot thermo doo dads...

Cycle time varies, but at the 3 setting is running for 3 minutes every five, like clockwork.

Here is an image of the box side of the 12v plug.
The 10 amp fuse is the normal size, like an  atc  size.

Do you have a Multimeter and the ability to test the power cords three prongs?

I am wondering if two of them are ground or one is unused. Set DMM to OHMS, touch leads together. OL should goto 0.00.

Now put one lead on spring loaded nipple, and test other end of plug to see which it responds to, and mark it +

MOve one probe to metal portion of ciggy plug which touches side of 12v receptacle. place other probe on other 2 receptacles on the Engel proprietary connector. Test both, see if there are two grounds ort one Dummy false connector.

I will look for a connector designed to fit tightly on those tangs So that you can run thicker gauge wire right to the fridge itself and entirely bypass the Ciggy plug and any 16awg. The spade terminals can likely be forced on but will Likely have half the total surface mating contact area they would have on the tang they were designed to grasp. Quick connects might also be too easy to inadvertently remove from those tangs.

Stern, yes I do have dmm.

We had to pop over to lowes for some electrical goodies!
Main junction box, breakers, wire, etc...I got stranded 10 awg for the reefer to go up, over and down, passenger side to drivers side.

So yeah I agree if we can figure out a direct 10awg with no 16awg that would be awesumm!

Oh shoot, I forgot to get a full extension slide, for the drawer like mount for the fridge...
And some sort of conduit stuff!

Yes, I will go out in the back shop and check those connectors fo us!

Thank you sooooooo much!

OOOPS! I forgot to post my meter readings...

I did it a few days ago, and now I cant remember what I found for sure...

Sorry...

I FINALLY got to Cottonwood and picked up my Engel MT-45. The nice guy at AZ shipping said it was no problem that I was delayed and even helped me get it into the trailer. I unboxed it once I was parked for the night and plugged it into the inverter. I let it run on the #5 setting for a while to get it cooled down before filling in about a third full with the meat I bought Saturday in anticipation of getting it. I plan on stopping back in for more and filling it up. It really is going hold quite a bit.

It has run continuously but it has a lot to freeze. It kind of pulses but I don't find it to be all that loud.

I just went to engelcoolers.com and it is still showing sale prices.  Just FYI

When I spoke with them it was suppose to be a week or as long as stock held out. I guess they had a lot of stock. She also said something about making them more competitive. Possibly the lower priced units are having a effect even if Engels are the better build.

I put two ice trays in mine and they are already freezing up. Boy do I miss ice. Iced tea, ice water, Iced coffee, lemonade....

What a great community we have here! FYI I ordered the 43 qt unit yesterday after calling to inquire about the sale. The gal I spoke with said to just order right off the web page. Yes, shipping is still free.
Thanks again, HDR, you saved me close to $300!

Well just ordered a 45 qt one myself! I had been going back and fourth on whether or not to get one or if getting one would be putting the cart before the horse so to speak.

Anyways, last night I got an email reminder saying my credit card payment was late, I almost never use them so it slipped my mind, but used it to buy a bunch of stuff for the house remodel. Went online to make the payment.....It's a Capital One card and it asked if I'd like to make the payment using account ending in ####. It wasn't my normal bank account I pay my bills from so I dug in a little deeper. It was an old ORANGE online savings account and Capital One bought them out so it's now a Capital One 360 account. It had $1600 sitting in there that I forgot ever existed! So paid off the credit card and had enough left over to get the Engel.

Feels like an early Christmas present! Now begins the waiting game for the delivery driver.

I think we should send this thread to them. They should give HDR a fridge. :)

I've had mine a week, boy is it nice. I stopped at Frys and bought enough meat to not only finish filling it up but had to pack the little freezer in the trailers fridge too. It's nice having room in the fridge for produce and fruit. It's also nice to have room for left overs since I don't seem to be able to cook for one.

One thing I can tell you is that when it freezes something, it's frozen hard. I took a steak out and it took a day on the counter and another in the fridge to thaw. Stuff from the trailers freezer thaws before dinner time.

I don't have it wired up for 12v yet, just running it off of the inverter. It doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference in my bank but I'll dig up my killawatt to not only see what it pulls in a day but also if insulating it makes a big difference. I put a blanket over the top and sides after feeling the lid on a warm day and finding it more than a little cool. I'm told I can get reflectix (sp) at Homedepot the next time I am in there but it might be better to go thicker.

Thanks again to HDR.

I will take it. I want one more to use as a dedicated freezer. Jim when I use one of mine for a freezer I turn it all the way up and get everything rock hard. then I turn it down to just above half, this keeps everything rock hard and uses very little power. I agree it takes awhile to thaw something, if I try to do it in a refrigerator it takes days. highdesertranger

Are all the units on sale ideal for fulltime use as a dedicated freezer?

Assuming optimized venting on the hot side, boxed in with extra insulation on a slide.

Have to use 110AC to do the freezing from warm? But 12V is enough to keep it that way even in hot weather?

I would have thought they ran on 12 volt all of the time with the 120v being converted to 12 volts. That or the 12 volt side would have to have a inveter to bring it up to 120v.

Maybe I'm crossing my wires (he he) between Danfoss and absorption?

they all can be used as a refer or a freezer. yes you can freeze with 12v. when I freeze I turn it all the way up for 12-24 hours depending on ambient temperature. then I turn it down to just over half way. mine goes from 0-6 with 6 being the coldest. so I do the initial freeze at 6 then I turn it down to about 3.5. I find this works great with low power usage. I run 2 off them off 175 watts of solar and 2 marine batteries. never had an issue even with a week of cloudy weather. btw I have 2 of these, http://www.engelcoolers.com/mr040f-u1.html . highdesertranger

so much want. And that biggest one sure is great value atm. I've got a good line of credit with Paypal, but they don't seem to take it. . .

Thank you!

I just ordered one.

I don't need it this soon...but $200 off and free shipping is a deal I can't pass up.
Thank you for the link!
