I have 12V appliances, fridge, TV, lighting, laptop, gadgets, that work fine with my solar and 6v batteries.

I talked myself into....justified, over the last 4 months that the few 120V items that I already own, I would like to bring-with. (I have the room in the Box Van) Nothing here is mandatory but would be nice to have along....
120V 1 gal. shop vac, I'm tired of sweeping with a broom.
120V high flow air compressor,100 PSI. I would like to air down/up when off road.
120V heat gun.
120V radiant heater, 600w/1500w. I carry it now and use when shore power is available.
120V 1000W microwave. I'd enjoy boondocking a lot more with one.

So, I did something I wasn't going to ever do, I bought a generator. This isn't one of those fancy inverter/generators. It's just a simple dual fuel 2000/1400w sportsman generator. I wanted propane (the "use 5 or 10 times a year fuel that never gums up your carburetor").

Price of Genny VS buying new 12V versions of the items listed above.... no contest.
Genny, Home Depot, $188 to my store. Ordered the 20th arrived the 24th.  Merry Christmas to me.....  :D

I just picked up the Sportsman 800/1000 inverter generator from HD. It sure would be nice if it were dual fuel because like you I won't need it very often.

I've looked closely at those too,. I'll be interested in what you think of it. It's so cheap compared to other dual fuel options I'll be curious what the downside is...
