This is the little fire that burned the wires to my house. It put itself out, probably the rain started it and put it out while I was gone for about an hour. I may have the new breaker box installed by mid week. Things could have been a lot worse. I was very fortunate the house didn't catch on fire.

Dragonfly

Did it do damage to the interior wall?

And, do you know what caused it?

OUCH that is an old set up, I am surprised the electric company has not replaced it, when I bought my present house it had the same meter set up, the electric company came and changed the wire from the pole to the house, put in a new meter and box, I had to change the wiring into the house and put in a breaker box....

I don't suppose the electric comapny has any financial responsibility since the meter is technically theirs? Just a thought, but it doesn't hurt to check, if you already haven't...

I have to agree with Jerry on this one, the reason they replaced the one on my house was as they wrote it "meter is of an old design and could be a hazard". It is worth looking into...
Doubt any "responsibility" by the power co- it appears the fire started past the meter- that is the last point of responsibility by them-when the juice leaves their meter, it is yours and your responsibility.
Most likely the problem stems from a couple of things- overload is common since we now have many new toys since the 50's and 60's that draw far more power than the 60 amps we used back then....also I would guess that the fabric casing used back then has degraded where it was bent through the wall and allowed water to enter the stranded aluminum wires and corrode them to the point they are even less capable of transferring power...resulting in heat....like a resistance heater, except that aluminum makes a very poor resistance heater and melts.
Whatever the reason- I'm glad you didn't loose your home. It sucks to have to replace the entrance and panel, but it beats starting with a hole in the ground.
Merry Christmas.

Still working more on getting my income producing life together than Little Sanitee. Good news is, last year I helped a friends sister out and bought her 61 Mercury Meteor car. A bit of a mistake on my part, didn't realize just how much an old classic costs to keep in shape (kind of like me).
I friend had a remodeler he uses for his rentals give me a quote to fix my houses bathroom and build another upstairs so I can have someone move into my place. That fellow is trading labor for the Mercury and finding supplies at Restore for my place. He is starting tomorrow.
Friend moving in is the one I wrote about some time ago when I got on my soapbox about women getting their health checks. She is now through her treatments for cervical cancer, has lost her house and will be moving here the end of June.
I am trying to hand over my business to someone capable. That can be hard to do so wish me luck.
Still not ready to sell the farm emotionally so I hope this will be the best of both worlds.

Dragonfly

Been working a lot on Little Sanitee. Been working on the rest of life too.
Poor Big Guy has been working fixing the tail lights. He gets upset if I threaten to have someone else do it. I know whats wrong. He doesn't want to go with me. He doesn't want me to go. He doesn't want to truly hold me back so he takes days weeks and months to do the electrical work. He treats me like a goddess and I just want to get the heck out of Dodge. Life can get very out of control.
Dragonfly
In Big Guy's defense, he has it almost finished and seems excited to get it ready now. We will meet Butteryfly and Bill before they head west for a shakedown cruise. He says he is going to get his motorcycle running so he still has his freedom. Good idea for both of us. My lady is moving in-has moved in much of her stuff-within a few weeks.
We will be sharing expenses. I am so excited myself. I see light at the end of the tunnel I have fallen into. My art sales have been picking up. Not enough to live on thru the internet but I have designs that may be sellable at craft shows. Still working on the kids personalized book.
Dragonfly
Started working on a mosaic threshold for Little Sanitee today. It is very hot and humid and the adhesive is drying/curing slowly I hope I can grout it tomorrow. Found some bad rot in the door frame so the door is once again pulled off. I have the replacement wood cut and almost ready. I am insecure cutting wood and have to nothc it so I will wait til Big Guy can get over in a few days to help me.
The mosaic is made of old plates from thrift stores. I am still doing everything I can with 'repurposed' materials and waiting til most things go on sale.
Wow very pretty. Your gonna have the best looking trailer...anywhere. Where do you think it will be placed? By the door where it is now? I gotta say your trailer looks so clean looking...did you paint the whole thing? I don't know if I missed that. Looks so new!!
