How can one own that which existed before mankind, and will remain once we are gone? At best, we're renters...

Keep up the good work. I understand being tired of being a homeowner. We bought a hous when our son came along, and now that he's in his last year of college I'm ready for the road. Just have a bunch of cosmetic work to perform first to get the house ready to sell * groan* and I can't work up the motivation...

@ Seraphim Sounds like a quote I was in search of. "How can one own that which existed before mankind, and will remain once we are gone? At best, we're renters." Or close enough.
It seems to me to take incredible amounts of organizational, physical and emotional energy to close down part of one's life to do such a drastic change, that of becoming mobile. Moving from one dwelling to another dwelling isn't so bad. I'm not really even attached to my 'stuff'. This seems insumountable if I look at the whole picture.
Fixing up your house, then liquidating possessions. That part is no fun to me and there just doesn't seem to be enough of me to go around.

I decided yesterday to spend the entire day working on Little Sanitee and had an enjoyable day of accomplishments. I pulled out a bench seat where the water tank was so I can rebuild it. I only have several hours today to do my wood cutting before the rain so I will start to work as soon as the dew dries up. I have never been good at wood working, and still am not but I am feeling good about myself because I am at least learning and not having to rely on someone else.
Dragonfly
I thought I could get by using a web site I have, just gives out the jpg addy. I tried from the blog, no go again. I will have time in a few days to work on it. Wouldn't you think it would have worked from a web site?

Diane, ... FYI

I use the free site called "photobucket.com" to do the same thing, if I want to refeerence an URL to display a picture.

Bob
Dragonfly

I've always liked new gadgets. I never threw anything away. Thanks, this is a freeing reality. Most of my stuff came from thrift stores anyway. I posted somewhere else on this site about having a yard sale with my sister over a month ago, sold most of my good sellable stuff. Not looking for sympthy, I just made another mistake in dealing with a very dysfunctional alcoholic. She kept my money and went on a drinking binge with it. I would have felt better and done less work just sitting everything out at the curb.

Dragonfly

I think we all have likely made mistakes trusting a family member, loaning money, letting others use our vehicles, etc, etc.

The only control we truly have is over our own actions and how we react to life's disappointments.

Now that you have downsized and moved to the smaller house, I hope you still persevere in getting your escape vehicle ready for when you are ready for a big life change.

Regards,
Bob (aka stude53)

Generally if I have anything of any use, I set it aside from the true trash. It's generally gone before I leave at 4:30 am, well before the garbage collector gets there. If someone having hard times has a use or can get a buck for something I don't need, I'm all for it.

Pics of the area the galvinized watertank was. It is a bench seat repair. I decided to go with old recycled wood collected from neighbors trash and what my Dad has dropped off. 3 layers of crap flooring were removed, a few soft spots discovered, not bad for a 50 year old travel trailer. I cut those out and supported from the bottom betwen the metal frame and the floor is, as opposed to only replacing the wood. Maybe overkill but I learned how to rip-cut lengthwise-and pound the stabilizers between the trailer frame and wanted to practice. The final picture shows that I put the bed (table) in place before finishing the tongue in groove and framework for the bench. I know better than to assume anything is 'square' in Little Sanitee so I am fitting to her unique charater. The tongue in groove is soft and split easily. It came from an old homemade bar I picked up in someones trash and took apart. You will see the screws showing, not to worry, I have other plans for that problem.

Whats next, after finishing Little Sanitee. Use my emerging skills to finish my bathroom here myself then build a small simple cabin on a property in NM next summer.
I have the trim work cut for the bench seat floor areas. I did trim the vinyl floor covering that fit in the bench. I need to attach the wood screws to the floor that hold the supports I put under the trailer. I need to find the recharger thingy for the drill. Sometimes I'm like a toddler, once it is no longer in my hand, it no longer exists until I need it again and I don't always put things in their place since places for things often disappear in my head. I'm the person that drives organized people nuts. Me staying single is very good for a man that may get to interested in becoming overly close.

Dragonfly

Good use of recycled materials on little sanitee.

Lots of good examples of simple cabins on the Internet. Just be sure you thoroughly investigate all the county/state/federal govt taxes, fees, use regs and building codes before you commit to building anything.
I'm easily distracted. I found it using 'tiny house blog' and its great. Now all kinds of ideas are swimming in my head. The area I have is about 6000 feet. I think prefabbing a little house, probably along the line of the sheds at Lowes and Home Depot so it can be put up without many power tools would be a good way to go. I will need to get a "shed" permit with pics to show what my intentions are. Dragonfly
