In a press release, Dometic unveils "Li-Weight" a new line of RV appliances aimed at the traveling weight conscious.

"Our research based on customer feedback showed a growing demographic watching weight in their RVs. Surveys show appliance weight has been the primary factor in their RV purchase decisions next to fuel consumption. " Dometic spokesperson Jennifer says.

Li-weight has been in the works for years, and we're proud to announce the Li-Weight line of ultralight appliances to the Dometic family of products.

Test-drivers which are everyday full time RVers have high marks for Li-Weight products, relishing the infinitesimal MPG gains by switching out their appliances for our Li-Weight.

One tester gushed "I can bank the savings so I can travel east of the Mississippi in three years! Li-Weight should have been available years ago!"

Dometics new product line hasn't been without criticism. Critics have run the numbers and point out that a full-time RVer would have to swap out all their appliances out with Dometic Li-Weight equivalents to see a marginal MPG gain. A blogger for sensical RV living wrote "My numbers show you would have to travel over 20,000 miles before the fuel savings paid for the new Li-Weight appliances.  "You only save a few cents per gallon in increased fuel economy. You would save more chucking your spare tire or peeling the wallpaper out of your RV."

Criticism hasn't dampened extreme frugalistas switching their RV appliances to Li-Weight, glomming over the fine details on how Li-Weight saves weight.

While the release date of Li-Weight appliances hasn't been announced, Dometic says they will be shipping pre-orders in the next month.

Yes, link please? I searched, but couldn't find anything about it?

I think it's more about CCC and towing capacity than MPG, but that's just me.

It would make a much greater difference for small RVs with limited carrying capacity, like Class B's and C's built on 3500 a chassis and such.

Eliminating an unnecessary 100 lbs or so of dead weight gives one room for carrying extra propane, solar panels, another battery and things like that.

The concept has it's uses, but a fraction of a MPG more is not one of them unless one is not replacing appliances, but it is a new build then the difference in cost between normal and lightweight appliances is the expense that must be recovered, not the entire cost of the appliance.

are you sure this wasn't from the onion?

In the mind of DS only.

Another fake post.

Guys, you should know by now not to take him seriously.

Shucks, I guess I'll just have to resort to filling my tires with helium to save weight. :p

What if I just drop the air pressure 20lbs in each tire. That's an 80lb savings right there! :s

You could save even more by removing your front windshield and replacing it with plastic stretch wrap (duct taped in place, of course). When it gets dirty and all full of bugs just roll out a fresh windshield!

Of course it might be a little harder to see through, but that just means you'll be forced to slow down, saving even more gas.  ;)

I think debit's invented quotes are intended to be satire, but the delivery is off.

so i guess completely fabricated information is o.k. on this site?

Everything is a fabrication Gary.

Well, except for aliens...they are real.

Well he's got an imagination, I'll give him that. If I had to guess, he wishes he could travel with less and thus those that do get under his skin.

To each their own my friend. If we were all the same it would get pretty boring out there. You're anti establishment and the establishment pushes everyone to be the same.....so i'm surprised you don't promote free thinking instead of condoning those that don't think the same as you.

OK, enough jokes. How about the real thing: a tiny, lightweight, efficient 12v microwave perfect for off grid use - the Wavebox 2.

I'm going to travel with enough (in the middle, not light not heavy), am entertained by think-small money saving tactics that don't move the needle in any meaningful way.

The next one I do, I'll label it satire to not fool people, branding it The Grey Tank News Network.
