I've never tried this, and am personally deathly afraid of propane, so I probably never will.

But if you're so inclined, this looks like a really cool idea to check into. Apparantly dealers aren't allowed to refill the little ones for you - I'm betting it's a pressure thing. But you could ask a pro.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...ll+adapter&sprefix=propane+refill,aps,292

I dont use the small tanks anymore, simply because I have the room for a larger, and they arent cost effective.. been using a 20pound tank for a couple years now and it's great At the 2012 RTR a gentleman was there who showed people just how to do this, wasnt hard or difficult

I'm curious, for those of you that use the larger 20 pound propane tanks, where do you store/keep this? Is it kept inside your van? Outside? Does it take up a long of space? I only have used the small 1 pound cans and this seems to work well for me, haven't had any problem yet.

The small canisters will fail after being refilled (some number) of times. Get a hose to conect the 20 to your heater. just check for leaks and b e safe with the 20 inside the van.

I do not carry a twenty pounder in my van I live in the south and rarely need that much heat. If I felt I needed one I would install it in a sealed box under my bed with a vent thru the floor. I refill the small ones after a dozen or so refills I toss them. In a very cold environment leaking propane will pool on the floor and just a foot or so above it you won't even smell it. Always check leaks using a water soap mix.
If you go the refill route pick up a few of theses.

http://www.amazon.com/Mac-Coupler-P...;colid=3JFH44ATR3YZ1&coliid=IFFEQJPTM91IR

I use a 20lb tank standing vertically inside the van. They're nice as I go about 4 months with one and it's a lot cheaper than the small tanks.

I keep a couple of the 1 pounders on board to tide me over when the big one runs out and to put the finishing touches on a vangiorno pizza.
