Maybe I should take your 1 yr old spark plugs... Would be an improvement annually! 
However, you are correct, maintaining a van is as necessary as maintain a home. Nothing is free or needs no maintenance for very long. Big things like trannys pretty much only need a fluid change, not much else to do with them...
