Last year when I was in Ft. Bragg, Cali. I went to the waterfront to buy some fresh albacore. There was a fellow there about 60 yrs.

old who had a tortoise that was 30 yrs. old. He was letting it walk around on the grass and when he tapped his shoe with a spoon it

would turn back and head towards the guy. He told me he got the tortoise when it was about 2. He took it everywhere with him. What

unusual pets have you run across in your travels?

There is a thread (a bit older now) that asks people to post photos of their traveling pets. I don't remember anything beyond the dogs and cats. So you may not get many posts. LOL

There are some odd "substitute pets".... like I think Rolling Steel Tent has a doll named Chet. And a couple who travel with a few sock monkeys and put one or more in most of their location pics.

Last year I managed to hit some sort of major hatch and had dozens of ladybugs share my van for a week or more... does that count?

I ran across my first wife.  She has two tortoises that wear diapers and have the run of her house.  They act like quiet dogs that do not move fast.

I once had a spider named Pete. He had a web in the kitchen that I would toss flys into. He disappeared for a long time, and I figured that was the end of that. He, (or she). came back one day, so I named it repeat, (rePete). Spiders that are not poisonous can hang out at my place.

But only a small number are poisonous to humans.  A small classification are not venomous.

I had a friend who was fascinated by spiders and kept them in aquariums. Some I saw in CA were really spooky.

I don't keep them today, I have a dog. She does like to catch and eat flies however. I  knew that there were spiders like the Daddy long legs that were venomous, but they have no way to inject the venom into humans. Now I am told they all are venomous. Time for a Google moment perhaps. On my property I get Black Widows, so I do send them to spider heaven. Their pattern of behavior reminds me of an exwife.

I haver fleets of Black Widows living under my Van.   Each morning there is haphazard webs between frame and asphalt.

I used to dispatch with them with a flyswatter at night, but then the Ants would get into the Van.

Now they are my loyal subjects, and as long as they stay below and not too close to my side doors, they are allowed to stay/live.

And occasionally, when her owner's daughters act like they have bamboo shoots hammered under their fingernails, Fiona comes over and asks me to play Fetch:

I have not, I guess they do not qualify as pets until they do. I can't think of any clever ones ATM.

Honest to goodness I k ow of 2 pot belly pigs that travel one is full time ad has a fb page. I met the other in a park in georgia.

Two years ago in the Q I saw a lady pushing a PB pig in one of those dog strollers. The thing was bowed out from the weight, really funny!

Took my dog to a park today for a walk, there were others doing the same thing. I like looking at the other dogs and noticed one that my first thought was " That is the weirdest looking dog I've ever seen." Turns out it was a guy walking his goat.

I know people who have traveled with birds and lizards and fish. Cats are common. I know a guy who says he knows a guy who has a monkey. But I still think dogs are the most companionable and the easiest if they are well trained.
