I'm a big rules-abider. Which means I don't sleep well when I worry about a ticket or knock on the window in the night. I have a couple conferences to attend in Davis this year. Furthermore, I hope to be going to school there later, but they give first priority to couples and/or those who've had kids. I'm disabled and haven't chosen to have kids or a partner. So if I can figure out a safe legal place to park, living out of my car may be my best choice.

Does anyone have tips? As far as I can see, there are resident parking permits required all over Davis except downtown. Downtown has a patchwork of times/days you can park. Some places say UC Davis parking is free after 10pm but others online say that UCPD rousts anyone parking overnight. I'm perfectly happy to pay for a legal overnight parking spot. I'm just wondering if I can find one...

Try Craigslist? Davis is in the Valley although it's a college town still kinda "Redneckie"

Thanks. I did indeed take several looks at Craigslist before posting. And since things change over time, I'm sure I'll do some follow-up looking. I've also asked an acquaintance who lives in Winters if he knows anyone who's got a bit of land they'd rent to someone like me for parking.

All I saw on Craig's List were storage places and even for places that do RV storage, I'm not sure if they actually let you sleep overnight in the vehicle...

Consider posting a "wanted" ad to Craigslist.
Your post here is well written, and explains your needs. Do add some more details (e.g. how often you'll need it & how much you'd like to pay), and use a very descriptive subject/title, so someone casually skimming won't have to guess.

A lot of landlords/etc do check CL wanted ads. They don't want the hassle of posting an ad and sorting thru the dregs. You'll get some garbage replies, but they're easier to sift thru, in my (limited) experience (only 3 times).

Thanks, Kaylee.

If anyone reading has prior experience stealth camping in and around Davis, I'd love to hear about your experiences.

Plenty of spots in the industrial areas of West Sac, just across the Yolo causeway.
