Mid-80's P-30 chassis were....lousy...and got worse as they aged. You will not enjoy driving it. Just sayin.

Does this one have the airbags in the front coil springs?

Uh-oh  :s   I remember JD_GUMBEE saying the front ends wore out early and were a pain to fix, but is the ride or stability really bad also?

I don't believe it has air bags.

Mine is an 86 and it drives like any other well maintained mid 80s 1 ton Chevy pick up, it fits in standard parking spot, has power steering and is fun to drive around town especially with the side doors open. On the open road it is a bit slow but climbs hills fine and stays on the road straight. It was very noisy when I first got it, yours will be worst with 4 bt but there are things you can do to improve it. ( ear plugs or sound proofing) On long days it was tiring, I have managed to quiet the noise down to about the same as a late 90s early 00s box truck. I can still improve some more and will, as I get around to it. They are big trucks so you do always have to be present, I avoid large highways and use mostly secondary roads when I can, my cruising speed is 55 all day. I have driven some very long trips with it. It is not like driving a car or small van it takes some getting used to it, but when you stop driving it is very comfortable.

Well, the price I paid is roughly what the engine is worth. The rest of the truck doesn't owe me much.

I like it because it has enough extra headroom to add several inches of insulation top and bottom. It also doesn't have a leaky roll-up door in back, and it's not a FedEx or Snap-On truck with 200,000 hard stop-and-go miles on the powertrain.

It's slated to become a more mobile version of Angie's Ice Cave, so it just needs to keep me from freezing to death when it's parked at 40 below.
