Now that is one cool video.

Never even thought of putting the trailer hitch on the roof of anything, and yes the maneuverability is awesome. Might want to disconnect the lights first though.

I remember those from the '70s and thought it was a really cool idea but wondered how one would act in in strong crosswinds. Might be kinda hairy with a VW. The wife and I were going to get one of those to be towed by a Chevy Vega which was probably a bad idea since the Vega engines were about as durable as a potato chip.

I can't stop watching this video...it just tickles me...and I love how it mentions it can be used on a variety of compact cars. Thank you LaVonne!!!!

now if you''ll excuse me...I gotta go watch it again...
-k-

this is such an interesting vehicle trailer combination. love it.

Where'd those trailers go? Who manufactured them? Those would be great today!

Hmm I wonder why this didn't catch on?

Seemed to be a very cool design.

thinking weight load would prevent this from catching on. plus what happens when you get a flat tire? the weight shift would push down further on the beetle.

Thinking too many safety issues- Too high a pivot point- wind gusts and hard cornering could easily roll the tow vehicle. Panic braking would get real interesting if the trailer brakes fail or are not timed perfectly....neat concept other than that..
