I have a HP LED computer monitor that has the external power supply brick. Does anyone know if it's possible to convert them to run from 12v?

I've heard that many monitors actually use 12v and the pore brick just converts AC to DC.. Anyone ever mess around with this kinda stuff?

Look at the specs on the power brick.

If it says Input 115 Vac, and output 12volts dc to ~13.5vdc the monitor will work just bypassing the power brick. But you must get the polarity correct, and fuse the power cord.

It should be printed somewhere on the power supply what voltage it's converting it to.

I bought a little LED TV that has VGA and HDMI video inputs co I can also use it as a computer monitor. It uses a 12 volt power supply and will work directly off a battery

Ok thanks for the info, I'll have to see what the pore brick says when I get back to where I have the monitor stashed.

Have you considered simply replacing your monitor and computer with a large laptop--considering the space limitations you have?

I have a laptop, but I use photoshop a lot and the screen is too small.
