I am a BC resident. My van is currently classified as a commercial vehicle class 1. I am in the process of getting the body style changed to a motorhome. The conversion is already done and meets the required definition of a motorhome. I understand that some sort of vehicle inspection is required. BCAA and ICBC are both worse than useless when it comes to information on this as they repeatedly change their stories and requirements. Has anyone else done this in British Columbia?

You're in luck, I did it last year.

The van was titled as a passenger van in Ontario. It would have qualified as an RV there but I couldn't get it insured in Ontario since it's all private insurers there. When I moved to BC I found I could both have it changed over to RV (motorhome) status AND get insurance. It saved me 40% over regular vehicle insurance and the van is insured for stated value. I did have to sit down and write up an inventory of everything in and on it and price it out at Canadian prices (horrendous btw) since most of the expensive stuff was done stateside!

I tried, like you, to get info from ICBC and 3 or 4 insurance brokers to no avail....no one knew from shit.

I had to have it inspected by the insurance broker, get it weighed on private scales and do up the price costing.

I too have great difficulty finding someone who knew exactly what they were doing. I'm going to PM you the name of the wonderful woman at
a great insurance brokerage firm. I'd put it out in public but I don't want her name out there without permission.

In the same boat (RV?  :D
Sent you a PM for the contact info, Almost There.

I am in ON right now as well, and having a really hard time finding anyone to insure me. Like no one understands or wants to touch this thing. There are a couple of Ontario based famous van lifers on Youtube and they are secretive (rightfully so, its personal; but doesn't instill great confidence in the system) about their insurance. Thinking of using my BC address to get this going, sigh.

BTW, Almost There, your van build link the signature (https://vanlivingforum.com/Thread-Building-Arabella) doesn't seem to be working :(

Replied and link fixed!

Thanks for letting me know about the link - must have been broken when the board crashed back in May!
