I have been thinking about a portable chuck box to keep my frequently used cooking and eating items together for easy access. I was thinking about a medium sized cooler to store the plates, cups, utensils, a small single burner cooktop. It would be of a size to be able to sit on the passenger floor board (keeping my sleeping area less cluttered), and easily transported to a picnic table or in the the back of the camper. I saw some nice looking wooden units, but for me, too large and expensive. Anyone have portable camping kitchen ideas they would like to share?

I saw a video recently while free-associating on YouTube. They had made a storage for kitchen items out of a cooler turned sideways, so the hinge was at the bottom front. That way the door would open out and down. Not sure if they were doing it, but it struck me that you could tie down the cooler somehow and make the door a table top that would fold out and be held by chains or cables. Pull your stuff out, cook, then pack it all away and fold the lid up and latch it. I'll see if I can find the video.

Found the video. It is a little hard to see as some of the pics in the vid are fuzzy, but it may give you some ideas.

You can find plastic totes in all sizes and shapes and they are what most people use. Cheap, light and strong, what's not to love!

I picked this up at a yardsale, for a song. It had never been used.

It's pricey, though! 100 bucks on Amazon!

those action packers work really well and come in various sizes, I like them because the top is one piece you can leave them out in the rain and the contents will not get wet. be careful if you are using an air tight container like an ice chest. if anything goes in there wet mold can start. ask me how I now. highdesertranger

@PeterG, thanks for the video, good ideas. Thanks everyone else for the suggestions. I never thought about the mold issue by using a cooler, it does make sense. In fact, I keep the lid propped open on the ARB fridge to prevent the mold issue. I guess I need to stick to the KISS principal..
