I am looking for something like this.

http://classbforum.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1442

Seems they are scarce as hen's teeth. There is an obviously older one that sits in town here that never seems to be driven by it's owner. Looks to need some cosmetic work, and who knows what on the mechanical. Nevertheless, I left the owner a note to call me if he wanted to sell.

Just wondering if there was anyone with experience on the Chevy Sun Sport? On the outside of the van it says Chevy 30, (whatever 30 means).?

Thanks,

Scarlett

30 means it is a chevy one ton rated chassis (10=1/2 ton, 20= 3/4 ton) GMC used a similar badge but with 15, 25,35.

Got nothing for you on the SunSport questions
Thanks Karl. My question (re:30), and your response illustrates WHY the guys on this forum deserve gold stars, and medals for exceptional valor for being so patient and nice to the ladies here.

Scarlett

1992 Chevy 30 Sun Sport:
Follow up on this little class B. I had left a note for the owner to contact me, and today I got a call. Turns out that this belonged to his father and mother in law, (now deceased). It has been "sitting" for about 7 yrs without being used.

Has 36,000 miles on it. I haven't had a chance to look at the inside yet, or drive it. He said it was in pretty good condition, (battery was taken out to protect electronics inside). He said tires were still good, but I think they may be flattened on bottom side due to sitting.

He told me the interior was well cared for by this couple, (haven't seen that aspect yet). He is going to take it to a good mechanic we both know for whatever servicing and repair is needed, but who I know is not CHEAP, which means it's not likely that RV is going to roll out of the shop with less than a couple K in repair charges at the least. Hoses, belts, fluids, and whatever other mechanical repair that needs to be done, not to mention tires. The exterior paint looks like it's flaking from being stored outside in the weather, and needs to be repainted or detailed??

I know Class B's are popular, and I'm hoping to get a good price on this if I can without this guy getting stars in his eyes. He may know as well as I do that Class B's are scarce as hen's teeth especially at a decent price if you can even find one! But! I am hopeful. Still need advice. As a lady, and a novice at this I feel at a disadvantage. But still, I've been extremely blessed with all the cars and other vehicles I've chosen as a single woman.

What should I be looking for?? And where can I get a blue book price on a Class B like this?

Thanks a zillion for any help,

Scarlett

Try this url on NADA.com for RVs.. http://www.nadaguides.com/RVs/1992/Gulf-Stream/M-1902-GM/3037921/Standard-Equipment

I read over on another forum that it's manufactured by Gulfstream. And I ran it down on NADA. It'll get you started. Remember the prices are based on dealers with all their markups etc. Pristine great condition at a dealer is a tad over $3600 and somewhat rough is in the $3000 range. Remember to deduct for tires if the existing ones are over 7 years old. You can figure out where to find and interpret the code here... https://vanlivingforum.com/post/Tire-date-codes-and-your-safety-6098051 Check the date code. Look for leaks inside. Ask him when the top was last sealed. Have him demonstrate that all the systems are working. You can deduct for items that aren't working.

I would start the bargaining at about 85-90% of the of the $3600 price if everything is in good shape. You can always print out a copy of the NADA sheet to take with you. As Class B's are at a premium and he may know that and insist on a higher price. Heck offer him $2500 to begin. You can always go up. It always depends on condition.

Good luck, and don't let emotion take you away. If he won't budge on the asking price and it's too high a price in your opinion, leave your phone number with him in case he has no luck moving it. I always have cash in hand to help move the deal along.

Wade in NW Florida
Hi Wade,
Thanks for the great advice! I really haven't had time to scout the Internet, but so far, I couldn't find a single thing on Chevy Sun Sport. Must not have been very many made. This one has been sitting for over 7 yrs, and has the mold, dirt, and rotted, tattered wheel covers to prove it. Lord only knows what the mechanic will find.

I must say I was a little surprised that you would say a figure that low, but hey, even though this rig is the right size and outfitted with what I'd want, (as a Class B), it doesn't appear to exactly be a cherry.

I went by there again today and the owner hadn't moved or touched it. I'd told him I was in no hurry.

A person just doesn't often see a Class B in this neck of the woods, or even often on Craigs List for that matter.

I'll use your info and do some more checking, and see what develops from there.

Thanks again so much,

Scarlett

The Sun Sport looks similar to the Falcon. Google "falcon rv" and see what you get. I had some friends who had one and they loved it.

Good Luck!!

Am I the only one who finds it odd that someone would inherit an RV and would then let it sit for 7 years, neither using it nor selling it?

My guess is that, after 7 years of non-use, probably EVERYTHING mechanical - furnace, water heater, air conditioning is gonna be non-operational without lots of expensive work.

Regards
John

How did this story end?

Gee, its been nearly a year and she hasn't posted anywhere since Aug.
Hope she got here dream machine and is living happy.

The GS class B is like our GS had a baby. A single person could live quite nicely in one.
