I’m researching chargers for my cargo trailer build. I have 2 Duracell 6v batteries, 215 AH. I also have 100w solar panels and a 2000w generator.

Most of the chargers I see are low amp or multiple bank chargers. Looking for a smart, 3 stage. Specific model numbers would be appropriated.

Sterling ProCharge Ultra

ProMariner Pronautic P

Both custom setpoint user adjustable.

30A is just enough if concurrent loads aren't high, 40A better.

But better to get biggest, if you may go to AGM or LFP.

Note you can derate if needed.

Normal for the charger to cost more for the bank. Former will last for many decades, longer than the vehicle most likely. Banks are consumables.

There are power supplies that you regulate yourself, RV "converters" as well some are OK.

But don't go lower than .15C on amps, unless you always have a full overnight, then maybe get away with say 20A.

The chargers that John61CT listed are some of the best (and most expensive).  Some of us can't afford that; I like to eat better than rice and beans for a couple of months.  I have the same batteries as yours and use a PowerMax 35 amp charger (<$100).  It has worked well for me for a year.  There is not much adjustment in this charger but the factory set points are close for my batteries.

Iota and Progressive Dynamics are also a good brands but a little more expensive.

Avoid automotive type chargers (Schumacher, et. al.) if you can.

What’s .15c amps?

.15 times your battery system capacity -> .15 X 215 = 33 amps, so a 35 amp charger would be good.  You can get a smaller charger but it will take longer to charge your batteries.

.15C is current relative to bank size.

So a 300AH bank, *.15 is 45A, round up to 50-60.

For 600AH it would be 90A.

.005C trailing current for endAmps, is 1.5A and 3A respectively.

Powermax is a Coleman label I believe.

Apparently their PBMC line is even setpoint adjustable, a great feature.

I’m looking at the Sterling Procharge Ultra. They all appear to be multiple bank systems.

They have the same motherboard as the Promariners.

Both firms give good service if needed.
