Got laid off. Applied for Unemployment. Keep getting letters saying I've been paid xx for xx week and I havent seen a red cent. I call, talk with someone who tells me that it was all fine and just wait. Meanwhile rent is past due, and no food in the house. Only good thing is found a job which starts next week. I just dont know where to turn.

You might contact a church food pantry near you, there is usually no strings attached, they are just trying to help people down on their luck. My brother (a Methodist pastor) runs a food pantry that has too much food sometimes due to lots of donations. They may be able to help with short term bills as well.

Just a thought... Make sure they have your address written correctly for wherever they mail the checks.

UIB is slow to get started but once it starts, it is fairly reliable.. but as soon as they hear about your new job it is all over. I have received UIB in CA before.

Check with your local Salvation Army or if there's a local Ministerial Alliance. They may have some ways of helping and tiding you over until you can start generating income on your own.

Of course just when I complained, the card showed up. THanks for all your help. Start my new job on Monday and while it doesn't pay as much as the last one, at least Ill be working and seems your more employable while working than not.
