Seriously? How does that make a bit of sense for anyone?

When I see anyone talk about a "home base", they have all sorts of plans for it.

Yes, they have all sorts of plans but soon find out it is just too much of a pain! Lol!!! Lots of YouTubers are lowering their expectations as land prices go up and costs to improve undeveloped lots.

When considering buying land you may want to check out the agriculture of the state you are considering. It may bear some influence on what's available and the cost.

This Reddit page may offer some information that could help with the choice. There is a link on it (Related Searches) regarding "Homesteading". A small parcel to live on in your rig part of the year may be seen as a "tiny homestead". Then if you desire to retire from being a nomad, you would have a place to start.

And as the old timers say, they can always print more stocks & bonds on paper, but they can't print more land.

Michigan can grow every thing but citrus outside & citrus in greenhouses. I read a study if all states broke up Michigan could do the best on it's own. We also have 20% of the Worlds fresh water.

Most of the remote land you can buy has always been cheap and always will be cheap. There is zero reason to buy for a "possible future". That isn't much wiser than buying land to camp on for 28 days/year.

It's cheap to buy beautiful land with a good year round climate that you can legally live on with nothing more than viable disposal... and compost or an outhouse is usually ok. If you have plumbing, then you will also need a septic. I personally have no desire for plumbing. Three 7 gal tanks I can carry and fill up in town will last me a month. If I get fancy and put up a roof, then I can collect all the water I need off that.

You can even have livestock and crops if you want, but of course then you'll be stuck there. Keep it simple, and it's easy and cheap. If you "need" it to have all the stuff a modern house has, then it won't be.

The sticking point for me is that I do want a roof, enclose insulated space, a storage building, and solar... and though that's legal, the local scavengers will likely pick it clean while I'm gone...

Composting toilets address the septic issue, but acceptance and regulation varies.

BTW... My reason for considering land at all at this point, was because I wanted a place to store stuff, that was somewhere near my roaming territory. A storage unit costs $100+/mo for a little one, and they generally don't let you work on stuff there... but I'm not sure how strict they are about that... probably varies. An advantage though is that they are usually in town, so if I need to buy parts while in the middle of task, it would be possible.

I found a nice 40 acre parcel 2 miles from a minimal town (and pavement). The town just has water, propane, food, gas, etc. The basics. I thought about plopping a shipping container on it for storage, and maybe later add a metal pavilion on a slab, an insulated box made of sips underneath it, water catch, and solar. But I don't want to be there much of the time, and even if I knew the neighbors and they were friendly, I doubt they'd even know if someone was ripping me off... the juniper trees are tall enough and dense enough to give it privacy.

Maybe a full perimeter fence and security cameras would be sufficient... if I can keep the cameras hidden. But that's more

Actually instead of hiding cameras, the threat of them would probably be better...
