I would venture a guess that most of those on THIS forum don't have the option of buying new.  I know people who only buy new, but get bored with perfectly good vehicle because they want and can afford a new vehicle.  Then, there are some of us who don't want all the electronic ******** on new vehicles.  Would you buy a new motorcycle to ride while saving for a new vehicle?  New vehicles have their problems too and most states have lemon laws to deal with them.  Most everything in life is a crapshoot.

True, true, true, ... That's why we are here: doing our homework.

When I wrote the sticky on full size vans and its sister post on minivans I didn't even bother covering the latest generations.
The vast majority if people on here, and people looking into this, simply can't afford vans even 10 years old let alone new.
Telling someone to just buy new is like saying explaining to a broke person that all they need is more money ...

That's why I initially posted, "A larger corporation with a good reputation or a knowledgeable local mechanic you trust would be my top two alternatives." which was in context to the original problem.

Then I expanded to always keep an eye on the big picture, because buying new can be cheaper than buying used in the short term and long term. I.e. - A new Nissan NV is not only the cheapest new vehicle, but it falls below cost of many used vehicles. In fact, it was the ONLY NEW van vehicle I would buy period - a (white) 2016 NV SL 3500, imo.

So that was a short term viewpoint and a long term view point without trying to predict every mechanical nuance or every year of every model: along with every case of previous owner negligence and specifying the many lemon model years of all manufacturers. That is a vast subject matter you can only scratch the surface without expert guidance. My last 2 trucks were 8.5 years 130k - 4cyl, and 18 years 330k - 6cyl., both new. Before that were many short time and low mileage used vehicles. Poor people are rip-off targets because they are so preoccupied with making ends meet. A little systemic advise never hurts,  unless you are from Asian Indian culture and think that is poor people's 'karma' and they will do better in future lifetimes...  sure.

Peace.
