the thing I don't understand is why there aren't moderately priced self-leveling camp stoves. (I know there are self-leveling marine stoves, but they are not moderately priced.)

I carry a pack of wood shims, but it still drives me nuts.

They are small enough I can stack a couple together if need be.

I might have to try those out, thanks! Easier to carry than the wood shims, which are about 6" long.

I thought about the shims, until I found these, they are about 1 1/2 long and 1" wide.

I use a small torpedo level to check for level.

Self leveling marine stoves are essential. They are suspended in a frame with a gimbal leveling system. But self leveling stoves in RVs and trailers are not. They are not essential because iyou can level the vehicle of course propane fridges have to be level so if you level for them then the stove ois also leveled..
