I have been working on a budget. I have three bills that add up to 225.00 per month. I figured my living expenses 125.00 a month. That is food, personal items, an propane. For a total of 350.00 per month. My vehicle expenses(fuel, maintenance, and repairs are not included in the budget.

My question is: does that sound possible, and does anyone else live on a low budget like that?
And if you do I would appreciate any tips or advise.
Thanks Sid.

Are you saying that amount includes your travel fund?
What I posted doesn't include travel expenses.

That sounds about right. Give or take a little. Depending on how crafty you are getting food for free or discounted or shopping and eating with thrift.

I don't count repairs in a budget. I have a savings for that. But mine is about there ($135) with oil changes, insurance, NP passport, etc included.

do you travel much? Or are you stationary.

Amazon is starting their hiring next week I heard. Everyone I've talked to say they make like $11hr plus 20hrs weekly overtime after thanksgiving and a christmas bonus. Campground with utilities payed. FYI

Nevada is the closest one to me and I don't see ads for them hiring.

I live on $600 a month and can save money, have some toys, and travel. 'Course, there's the foodbank and harsh budgeting involved when it comes to buying food. If it ain't 'reduced' or majorly on sale, I ain't buying it. Also, big sacks of brown rice help, as does buying 'family packs of meat. Little to no junk food and NO fast food/restaurants. I also have a Waeco cooler running off solar and it's full of meat frozen solid. Don't buy canned veggies unless it's a super-duper deal, cuz fresh veggies are usually cheaper and better for ya. I will admit to having a whole pile of canned food, but that's all from the food bank and I save it for emergencies/lean times. I also have a dog and she eats high quality dog food, as well as table scraps. Actually, she's also my dishwasher.. so I save on soap too!! ..Willy.

Willy, if it's not too intrusive. Would you post a breakdown of your monthly expenses. Also, how much do you move around each month?

WOW.. that's a hard one. I don't budget by way of lists 'n stuff. It's a case of always dealing in cash and knowing exactly how much I have at any given time. That determines how much I can spend. If there's a surplus from the previous month, it goes into my slush fund. Any pocket change I get goes, at the end of the day, into my 'save the puppy' fund (a black plastic piggy-bank), which is solely for vet stuff or extreme emergencies. Gas may average out to $200-300 a month, depending on how much driving I do. My rig gets somewhere around 12 MPG on the highway, and this in the mountains. Clothing and shoes.. Value Village, Sally-Ann, etc.
Basically, I just have a few hard 'n fast rules to live by:
-If possible, buy on sale only.
-NEVER buy on credit.. cash on the barrel.
-Save non-perishables for future need.
-Always brew your own coffee, unless one needs the WiFi at a coffee shop.
-NO restaurants/fast food.. cook yer own cuz it's cheaper & healthier.
-repair your own stuff if possible.. especially you vehicle.
-Find them foodbanks.
-Avoid buying canned stuff and save 'em when you get 'em.
-Tools tools tools, and not cheap crap, will save ya money down the road. Keep your eyes open at junkyards/dumps for lost tools.
-Don't pay for what you can do yourself and if you can't, try to learn how.
-The small expenses will kill ya, so keep track of them. Stuff like candy-bars are budget killers. Wait till the day after Halloween/Easter and buy a pile then.
Basically, just think cheap and always try to figure out what your dollar is REALLY gettin' ya and what is really needed, not wanted. Living that way, the end of the year could very well leave one with a surplus of cash. ..Willy.

Oh, underfunded politicians, that made me snort!
Now, let's get back to the budget discussion!

Maybe I should change the title of this topic to: what's your opinion of welfare and food banks.
