Hi, I'm driving to Moab on Thursday and will need a campsite near town.

Any suggestions?

I may also consider campgrounds that are a little further but aesthetically nice.

I don't know Moab at all, except for going there about 22 years ago.

Thanks!

Willow Springs Trail Road is free boondocking but is 7 miles north of town - http://www.van-tramp.com/wp/willow-springs-trail-boondocking/

Otherwise the BLM paid sites on hwy 128 that follows the Colorado River are great. They are $6 - $12 per night. There are a half-dozen or so campgrounds in those first few miles. The first one nearest town can eeek out a cell signal, the rest will not (but cost less).

And if you want to browse my blog posts from the past few years visiting Moab for ideas of things to do - http://www.van-tramp.com/wp/?s=moab

That's great! I'll consider both options.

Thank you!

OOoo, before I forget, another option is to camp at the Lazy Lizard Hostel ($8 a night if you stay in your car/van). You will then have access to a hot shower, community kitchen, and others to socialize with. I stayed there a few years back and really enjoyed it. And, since it is in town you can bike everywhere instead of having to drive.

When are you going to be there? I'm tentatively planing on being there around Oct 20 for a week or so and then heading over to Zion.

The nearest boondocking is about 12-15 miles north of town and if you drive that round trip every day after what you spend on gas you won't save a whole lot over paying $6-8 a night close to town. Plus all the time wasted and wear-tear on your rig.

But, it's more than money to me so I boondock.
