In Idaho the Harvest for sugarbeets starts in October. They need guys to drive 10 wheelers out of the fields to a central beet pile, where larger trucks load 90,000lbs and haul to the sugar plant 15 -30 miles away. Most of the companies like Transystems will train you for free. It's a good living cause you are never out exposed to the elements. You sit in a warm cab and hold the steering wheel for 12hrs.

Most guys I know who drive beet trucks last year all averaged $20+ an hr. The key is to live on half of that and take a nice long vacation starting in April. Do you have a cdl? They even have housing free for the out of staters.

My rough plans are to work like a dog here in Fresno and build out my 7x14 cargo trailer, then do the October 2016 harvest in Idaho. If I can stop ordering junk on Amazon, I may be able to take a good year off work and see the country. [emoji12]

Darn that Amazon!! I feel ya, haha. I have since removed the link from my favorites and now have to manually *gulp* type it into the address bar, making me think to myself: "Just WHAT are you doing?! Turn that off, right now!" haha :D

I have a class A CDL, but I am not a "driver". I am a mechanic. I do have a valid medical card, would they hire me to drive the 10 wheelers with no driving experience?

Depends on who is hiring. As long as you have a cdl and can pass a 10 min road test, then yeah. Most of my dairy farmers I picked up milk from haul beets in the winter for extra income. I've seen young and old. They just want peopl that will show up on time. You could start with Personell Plus, or other temp agencies.

F.Y.I They don't charge employers a fee, it comes out of your check. Those temp agencies are bottom feeders, so they're best left as a last resort. Get a season or two under ur belt and you could work anywhere in the US. If those famers knew you could also turn a wrench you might be worth more.
