Folks, I'm at Roper Lake State Park in Safford, AZ, and they seem to be having a shortage of hosts. This park is open all year. You don't get paid, but get hookups and have to work 4.5 hrs a day, 5 days a week. On your two days off, you can stay in other AZ State Parks for free, and this includes the cabins. The summers are hot, but if you have AC, They provide the power with full hookups.

These parks are really nice, Have full CLEAN showers and such. I've stayed at four of them:
Lyman Lake
Kartchner
Dead Horse
Roper Lake

I have also visited Fools Hollow in Show Low. Also very nice.

I don't work for the state, but these parks are all so nice, they need good folks to volunteer to help keep them going.

Also, Quemado lake in NM just lost both of it's hosts due to family emergencies. I do not know who you would call, but that park is USDA run. Also very nice.

Maybe more people would be interested if they offered pay? Also, isn't 26.5 hours a lot for a site? Don't know just asking.

I'd be willing to bet those jobs are filled by snowbirds, in no time. Snowbirds are just beginning to head south now. Thank goodness there are people willing to volunteer to keep our parks open.

I agree with ramblingvanman, (post#2). Seems like that much work is more like being an indentured servant. Really only 2 days off a week doesn't seem right either. After working the 4 hours in a day, the rest of the day is kinda ruined. It comes down to 50% of their work week going to pay rent.

Just putting it out there...

And I, for one, thank you for it!

Some people like doing volunteer work and find it rewarding on several different fronts and others don't!

All of my volunteer work - well except for having to attend meetings... - has brought me more joy and pride than almost all of my paid working days!

I can't wait until I'm in the position to be doing park volunteer work! I'd gladly put in 4 hours a day so I could spend the rest of my days free to explore or whatever.

I appreciate it, too, Zonie.I've always been active in the community as a volunteer. I don't do any volunteer work now, except for here on the forum. But I plan to take advantage of these opportunities after a few years of freedom on the road.

They do 90 day stints, so a way to hang tight for no costs with full hookups for a while...
