For those artists among us, I just came across this website:

Figure Drawing Classes, Workshops, Open Studios
http://www.artmodelbook.com/figure-drawing-mountain.htm#AZ

It seems to be a list of communities, by state, that offer drawing/painting classes, etc.
If you are an artist doing drawing, painting, or even sculpting, there may be an open studio happening
near you when you will have 3-4 hours.
This is something I enjoy when I can: life drawing open studio. I was at one today. We had a wonderful model, and though I haven't drawn a human for a long time, I didn't do too badly. I would find it enjoyable to be able to connect with such a group on occasion while traveling.
The ones I looked at are about $10-$20 a session of about 3 hours. No instruction generally, just go, immerse yourself in drawing/painting for a bit.
I'll look for a list of plein air painting, too.

We have noticed lots of places that offer pottery studios like that. You pay a little fee and they have everything you need to make something. I'm nota clay person but I thought it was a cool idea for travelers who are into it.
Coos Bay had a big one right downtown.

It's a wonderful experience to create something from nothing, having painted for so many years attest to the positive feelings from expressing your self through art.

One of the best things about these is all you need generally is interest and basic materials.
Saturday I took graphite ( regular pencils) and standard bond (computer) paper--you know what a lot of the junk mail comes on, blank on one side. (a lot of my drawing is on "scrap paper") or inexpensive sketch, newsprint, or drawing paper
Next time I may take watercolors: a kids school kit--a buck or two from the $ store, and some inexpensive watercolor paper. I do use a decent to good brush, however. The brushes in those kid's trays are terrible. BUT, the man next to me was using wc paper, and he had several sticks, as well as a variety of brushes, and artist water color paint. Some of his sticks were split at the ends, others not.
Now that winter's coming :) (maybe) the plein air painting groups are setting calendars, though Tucson's isn't up yet. Through Parks and Rec, they have free PAINT OUT IN THE PARKS exhibitions once a month at various parks, usually early in the AM. Then you can stay and paint if you want, with your own materials. The P&R schedule isn't up yet either.
Other cities may have such programs.

THIS was my open studio last weekend!

Hmmm, My computer is showing the photo.
When I got the link to upload, it wouldn't connect.
What am I doing wrong?
FWIW, I had to attach it to an email, and aftter several attempts, the photo finally loaded here.

For those that don't know, I'm a professional artist, and onna my absolute favorite things to do when out traveling is to stop at other graphic artists shops...especially pinstripers & sign shops.
But I also work in oils, and do illustration work too, so I love visiting art gallerys and attending workshops of just about any kind of artistic venue.

Just getting into another artist's workspace can be so inspiring!!!

Patrick, have seen your work... really wonderful.

I always like looking at other folks work as well.
