Hi all, first post here, getting my first RV hopefully tomorrow (1989 bigfoot 17 foot RV trailer). The trailer doesn't have solar so I think I will go with a kit of some kind either 200w or 400w, would anybody have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance
Dominic

First determine your needs. For example what RV appliances are you going to be using and how quickly will they bring down your house battery or batteries to 50% which you don’t want to do if you want them to last unless they are new tech style batteries. Most RVs come with old style batteries and are not affected by temperature as much as the new tech ones and are cheaper.  Generally the more solar the better but means you will need more storage for overnight usages. So if you have only one house battery and it is less than say 75% discharged in the morning and the battery can get fully charged during the day with a small portable system that is all you need. If your battery is less than 50% every morning then you need to increase the size or number of batteries and add enough solar to get them to full charge during the day. There are several options like a generator or plug in campgrounds or more efficient appliances to keep your battery charged but you must keep it charged if you expect it to last.
