Hello Everyone,

First day, just seconds old here, and to top it off, this idea is minutes old! I was dreaming of and awoke with an idea so strong that I went and looked for a forum and found you guys. I just retired last year from the military, but because I got off active duty after 8 years and did the other 16 as a reservists, I wont get my retirement pay until about 62 or so. I just moved from Connecticut to Alaska and I thought that's how and where I want to retire. Then this morning came along and put this idea in my head. Funny thing is, even on my measly military disability, I actually might ne able to swing a decent RV!!! If you are in Alaska, you can access a site called alaskaslists and its basicly one giant classified for the whole state. I find it both intriguing and exciting that I got pulled in this direction. Well I know I rambled, I apologize, but this just came out of no where and I'm acting on it. I'm sure I will have tons of questions forthcoming. I guess the best news is that I'm divorced, so I will not have another persons consideration to worry about. I really don't know what to do next. I would appreciate any input or guidance you can provide, and I thank you in advance for it.

Regards,

Jeff

Welcome Jeff, this is a great forum with a ton of information. We'll help you with any questions you have. Someone is almost always on. Just ask away.
Your travel is backwards of mine, I was born in AK, raised in CT and still trying to get back to AK. Love AK. You can definitely find everything you want on Alaskalists.

Good to have you Jeff. Good luck to you and your new idea.

I lived in Alaska for 22 years and started bus living there. I originally brought a restored travel trailer up there and since we were living in Delta Junction at the time as I was working at Fort Greely, it was too cold for the trailer so we moved into a cabin.

When my wife and I split up, I found my first bus and began a build out and started living in it. What a journey it has been since then...It is totally possible but I would probably move to the banana belt of Alaska and not try to live in the interior....

If I think of it I will add a couple photos of that period once I get back to my other computer....
Cheers,
Bri

Hey Bri,

Well it really is a small world! Your not going to believe what town sits by the river I need to cross, and what town is basically owned by the entity whose vast land I need to cross, before I get to my wee little cabin. If you know Bill Smith, I'm in his until I get mine built. Send me a PM, depending on how long ago, we might know some of the same people. I don't know many, I just got here in January. Thank you everyone for the responses. I will assume I cant ask questions here while I have people answering, so I will start another thread soon.

Regards,

Jeff
