Hello Everyone.
I am just seeking some opinions about a craigslist ad that I found.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/2972980967.html

My questions are:

What is a reasonable offer?

Do you think the mileage is too high?

What are some things to look for when viewing this van?

Any thoughts or advice is welcomed.
Thanks in advance.

If it is mechanically sound, tell him all you have is $3000.00 cash but want the van... The worst he can say is no...

I test drove it last night, and I really liked it. It has a lot of miles on it, but it is already to go as far as sleeping in it.

I don't remember if it was here in the classifieds, or if it was on vandwellers, but there was an 87 g30 with ambulance package for sale with 27k on it, for something like $2400. If I can find it again, I'll edit this and include the link. It DEFFINATLY pays to shop around.

Edit
Just checked, it's already sold. Here is a link to the thread, though

I offered him $3000 Cash after a day of thinking about it, and he told me he has another guy taking a look at it this weekend. I have a pretty strict budget, so I really couldnt offer more. I will let you know if he accepts the offer this weekend.

The ad has been pulled. I'm guessing he sold it or is about to.

Remember no one that is not a vandweller would want this with all the lights and paint job... Go back and see him again, let him know you are very interested but $3k is all you can do... Even better have cash on hand and let him see it... tell him, 'who but you would want this with the paint and lights'... work him and upon leaving if he says not yet, hand him a note with name and number, tell him to call when he is ready... but also let him know you too are still looking... work him coming and going...

PS ambulances are made with a bullet proof tranny, everything is heavy duty, they have to be... also they are maintained through out their lives... How many ambulances have you seen hooked to a tow truck...

Soulraven,
I've seen more than a few old ambulances turned into contractors rigs, or highway service trucks. Yes, well maintained, and heavy duty. Pluss the compartments and extra wiring come in handy.check the phone book for "xxxxx mobile medic" and I bet there's an old ambulance in there somewhere.

And why were you up so early/ late?!! 1:44? jeez.....

I pulled the trigger on the Ambulance. It is awesome, once I get started on it, I will post in the build progress forum.

Be careful when you look at ambulances. If it's for sale the odds are it has LOTS of wear on the motor, they idle a lot as well as travel. If it's hospital based it probably had scheduled maintenance, indies? well maybe not so good. Also ambulances are heavy and use a lot of fuel.
I'll give you some information that was given to me by a former friend who used to work for a local paramedic company.

My buddy used to work for a local paramedic company here in Las Vegas. At one point I asked him how often they sell their vehicles. I told him that I was interested in buying one of them. Here's what he told me about buying a retired ambulance.

(1) Two biggest expenses they had were engines & transmissions
(2) Ambulances idle a great deal so they have LOTS of wear & tear
(3) Ambulances have A LOT of different drivers so they saw alot of abuse at times

If you do want to buy a retired ambulance have it gone through by a competent mechanic. By the nature of the vehicle, they see a great deal of use & abuse over their lifetime.

Hopefully this helped you consider buying a retired ambulance.
