Hawaii is my home, but I have traveled all over the US, Asia and the Pacific in my long [72yr] life. growing up with my family we carcamped, tent camped and shelter camped all over the South and East US.................then Pop settled down in suburbia which was boring until I left home and homesteaded on some family land in the Hawaiian rainforest.....................starting out sleeping in a small shack and I was a happy camper again for a decade or two. Travel was in my blood, so I took off for Asia and never looked back until I had to return to the US for medical reasons and found myself back in the Tropical rainforest in Hawaii but now with family that I picked up in Thailand.
Now, my feet are beginning to itch again for the road and camping on the beaches that I camped on as a teen, but found that most of the beaches that we had to ourselves are now occupied with hotels and closed to campers.
I'm persistent and want to return to MY beaches even if I have to be stealthy now.................

No camping right on beaches seems to have become the normal near most populated areas.

I hope you have many more happy beach camping experiences in Hawaii. It is a very lovely place to live and be from.

yeah, I feel lucky that I had the experience before MY beaches were discovered by the developers and now have to sneak back. It seems to me that this van life is the only way to have to regain the freedom we used to have. Luckily most of you guys have thousands of miles to cruise on while I only have a small [but beautiful] little rock surrounded by lots of ocean.
If I am unable to find my dream camper here, then I may consider a trip to the US to find that perfect rig and see a little piece of your big rock..................but, the downside is that it's $3-4K to ship a rig over to Hawaii.

What is showing up in a regular basis in Seattle for good prices are the camper-vans from Japan. They are really sweet  things and their very decent mpg might be an advantage in Hawaii because of fuel prices. They are right hand drive. Perhaps it might cost less to get one of those dropped off in Hawaii versus buying an RV on the mainland and having it shipped to Hawaii.

yes. oahu. check my posting history for pics and ping me talk story
