Anyone add cruise control to their van? On my van search I've noticed most work van don't have cruise control. Due to a back injury, trying to keep my foot on the pedal for long periods causes bad leg cramps. I had a after market kit put on a Mazda truck back in the 80's but it wasn't very reliable, never seemed to work properly.

There should be a factory cruise install kit available for any van that was sold with cruise as an option. I haven't done it, but that would be my preference over an aftermarket kit.

I've been avoiding this because I suspect it involves things like new sensors, new actuators, new wiring bundles, reprogramming the computer and who knows what else.

I've never been one who demanded all the power options on my vehicles, but it would be great to have cruise control, power locks and power mirrors on my '07 Chevy Express cargo van. Oh well. Fewer things to go wrong.

if you have the working knowledge of your vehicle you could add on a factory cruise control. I haven't messed with the after market ones in a coons age, so really can't give any advice there. highdesertranger

Back when I worked as an auto mechanic, mid 80s-90s, it was common to add cruise to new vehicles. The OEM add-on kits were fairly easy installs. Most vehicles already have the necessary wiring in the wiring harness.

Thanks, it does make sense that it would be prewired, simply cheaper to wire them all the same. Probably do it on cargo vans to, I have seen a few with cruise and power windows.

Back in the 1980s,I added cruise control to a Ford van.I think I remember glueing something on to the driveshaft and mounting a sensor to count the rpm s.Whatever it was,I remember it was an easy install and worked pretty good.

yeah you would put magnets on the drive shaft usually 4, then mount a sensor next to it. they had a micro processor that would count the speed of the drive shaft by how many times the magnets pass the sensor the hold that speed. highdesertranger

I added a Rostra cruise control to my 2010 GMC Savana shortly after I bought it about 2 months ago. It's been working great. As I remember it cost about $300. It's a complicated add on. I had a search a bit before I found someone to put it in. They did for about $150...

It was well worth it for me...I have knee problems unless I can stretch my legs out and now I can do that. So far so good. I love it.
