. . . inspired by the news about the ongoing powerball, currently larger than the Gross National Product of most Third World Countries.

Assume you won a small lottery, say, 10 to 15 thousand dollars, and assume you didn't need to spend it on a better, fancier rig.  Instead, it's mad money that you can use to satisfy something you've always wanted to do, like take a cruise around the world, or a photo safari in Africa, or some other once-in-a-lifetime event.  What would it be?

I'll start.

I was always a bit nuts about Rome and the Roman Legions when I was young.  I would go to Italy to go to Pompei.  It would be so awesome to walk down actual Roman streets in a preserved Roman city.  If there was money left, I would go to Rome itself to see the Colliseum and so on.  But if there was only enough money for one or the other, it would definitely be Pompei.

Regards
John

I would buy one of those sailboats I have drooled over for the last several years and set sail for the south Pacific. If you had given me a little more money to work with,I could hire a crew.

Knowing myself, I wouldn't do anything at all.  I've got 5 times that (liquid) and I've never done anything special with it.  I just hang onto it in case my back goes out and I can't work for a few years, or to use to help as retirement money, since I've never done any investing and don't have a 401K with more than $30K in it.
I've always wanted to take an Alaskan cruise, though.  The kind with the smaller ship that carries kayaks so you can explore the glaciers close up and personal.
Those trips don't take anywhere near that much money, but I still haven't gone.

Hell, go back down to Algodones. I bet by the time you talk to four street peddlers you can haggle one down to $5,999.95 to build you a sailboat along with eight of his cousins to man it.

I'd come to RTR in my new Money Grab Mobile and we can play a game...  :D

Hmmm, 15k mad money....

Grand Prix of Monaco with a couple days on the French Riviera on the return trip.

Quit work, fly to Australia, ride small motorcycle all over.

I might be tempted to use a bit of it for a trip to Merry Old England, to do a bicycling trip through the Cotswold District.  Saw that on "Rick Steves Europe" on PBS once, and it looked like a great vacation idea.
Save the rest for contingencies.

TMG.That's an idea.Would be easier if OP had given us more money.Guess he's just a cheapskate.

Hey, if I'd given you guys TOO much money, you'd just waste it on expensive Italian cars and private jets!

I would go on an Antarctic expedition. But since I don't buy any type of lottery or gamble beyond workplace football pools it's probably not going to happen. Unless John is paying!

I guess I lose the game.
I keep trying to come up with a splurge plan but my mind keeps blocking all attempts.
Too many years of self programming in frugal living I guess.

Any income , regardless of how easy would go to a different rig or a total rebuild of this one which I need really bad.

After that any leftover will go towards extending my ability to enjoy this lifestyle that I love so much and travel more .

Dear Mr. Lj Unlimited,

Thank you very much for submitting your request for funds to the Optimistic Paranoid Charitable Trust.

As you can imagine, we receive many, many more requests for funds from very worthwhile organizations and individuals like yourself.

Unfortunately, we just don't have the resources available at this time to provide the kind of support you would need for your project.  In point of fact, the most recent report from our Chief Financial Officer indicates that our current fund balance is $1.98.

Kindest Regards
John Perz

(But seriously, man, have you ever Googled "WORKING IN ANTARCTICA"?  Several thousand people end up working down there every year.  Cooks, mechanics, plumbers, etc.)

Dear John,

I have no desire to work down there for the following reasons:

1.)  I don't want to stay there for a season. 7 to 10 days max would be plenty.
2.)  I guessing there is not much, if any beer or Bourbon down there. If I am going to be a working stiff cold ones and shots need to be plentiful.
3.)  Once I have time for a trip there, I will be done working. Period. Shirtless (sometimes) and unemployed is my goal as well.

But seriously thanks for the info. I did look at the jobs down there. Nothing really in my skill set (Tool and Die). Maybe I will guilt my kids into sending me. I have shelled over 25k for their college tuition in the last decade.

Heck OP,If we wanted private jets and fancy cars we would have become TV preachers.

Or go into politics.  Best scam in town!  A great gig if you can bluff enough idiots into electing you.   ;)
