Hello everyone,
I have almost completely converted to the nomadic lifestyle. I have always been drawn to nature and traveling. Being a rubber tramp should be a good fit for me because it will allow me to live free. The next few sentences are not meant for pity, just telling my story. Over the past year I have had some huge changes in my lifestyle. My wife and I, have grown apart and are now separated. I lost my job in September and the house will be gone in the middle of March. These are three major changes to happen in just a couple of months. I am trying to keep my head up and look to the future. Once I get on the road and meet some new people, I will be able to move on. For most of my life I have been happy and easy-going and I would like to get back to that state of mind. I plan to head down to Florida and maybe be a workamper for a while. One thing I know is that I need to get away from Maryland.
Welcome dlivesgreen, I think you are going to fit in very well here! Many of us were thrown into the mobile living by downturns in out lives. After a divorce I couldn't afford to pay rent so I moved into a box van. At first it was hard, but soon I fell in love with the lifestyle. It was a big part of the healing process.

I am a workcamper in the Sierra NF as a campground host. I make $8.50 an hour for every hour I work and get a free site. Lots of jobs like that here out West. Are you tied into the East or can you travel? Welcome again! Bob

Welcome dlivesgreen. Sounds like you are using the setbacks in life to embrace a new life. So much better to heal with the ideas of the timely quote Katie sent to you and look to a new life path. Watch out for your health at this time. You have a lot of stressors.

Thanks guys,
It truly is great to have the support of like minded individuals. Most of my friends and family think that I am crazy and irresponsible. Maybe I am, but I will not be tied down to one location anymore. The only ties I have to the East is familiarity to the area. This is why am starting going down the coast. I love FL and i figure it is a good place to start over. My intentions are to make it to AZ or CA by next winter. I have 10 acres in OK that I plan on using as a storage area and a home base. I will most likely build a little plywood cabin there. The lot is off the beaten path so i can pretty much do what i want on it with no problems.

Hi there dlives! Great to have you here. So your plans for next winter mean you would make it to next years rubber Tramp Rendezvous! Great planning on your part, I would say!

To cyndi - that is my plan. I figure i will be able to get across the country within a year; provided I make enough of that evil thing called money. It will be great to meet the people that you chat and share stories with. Hopefully I can sell a few more things this weekend. I need to buy a couple things for my solar setup like mounting hardware and a battery box.
Hello everyone,
Here are some pictures of my conversion up to date. It probably looks a little industrial but I already had the tool chests. If I decide that I want to go a different way I will probably store them in a shed in OK. I like that they are sturdy and you can use magnets. Plus they make it look like a work truck when the tailgate is down. If I had the money to get one; I would pull a small enclosed utility trailer. I do not have all of my personal things in it yet, so it looks a little bare. Let me know what you think!
P.S. Hopefully the pictures show up.
Welcome to the group ! You will find lots of help here. Kenny
