I'm making a reservation for a campground and I'm curious if there is an advantage to paying a tad more for 50 amp service. It's in Florida and might be hot. My new (used) trailer has a rooftop air conditioner, if that helps. Plus, there will be two of my kids and 4 grandkids at the site. We'll have a tent and screen room. So lots of ppl using power.

Some RVs are wired for 50 AMP and some are wired for 30 AMP. If your rig is wired for 30 AMP then you’d be wasting money on 50 AMP. Usually the 50 AMP rigs have two air conditioners and 50 AMPs are needed to power that.

Basically all the AMP means is how much electricity is allowed into the wiring. 50 AMPs have a 50 AMP fuse/breaker and thicker wiring. You can hook a 30 AMP rig into a 50 AMP receptacle by using a converter. You can also hook a 50 AMP rig into a 30 AMP receptical using a 50-to-30 AMP converter. The converter does not change the amperage, but is needed because of the different type of connection configuration.

If you connect a 50 AMP rig into a 30 AMP receptical, you just need to be careful not to use more than 30 AMPs because if you do you’ll pop the breaker.

Thanks. I'll book the 30 amp site:)

Good idea… I doubt you have 50 amp service. But if it’s going to be hot, you could use the thirty amp… they likely have that in the same box. And use a 20 amp 110 separate if you had an additional portable air conditioner… I do that at my sons place when it’s super hot…
