Maybe move on and let someone else moderate?

Everybody gets frustrated with their job at times and vents a bit. HDR is one of the best. Stop picking on him, that is MY job.

A few years ago, I was on a forum on google groups, and there was no moderation. First, 2 guys ruined the group by making excessive posts in response to almost every post made by the other people - the forum had many fewer regular posters, and the 2 "bad" guys had an axe to grind against the general "theme" of the forum (AI interpreted as cognitivism). Secondly, then the spam bots came in and created dozens of new spam threads every day.

Luckily, on this forum, there are 6 or 7 guys who respond to almost every other post, rather than just 2 guys.

I appreciate the work that the moderators do to keep this site flowing as smooth as it does. It is irritating when you have members ignoring the rules. It's obvious to me that without the guidelines this site would be chaos. Sure it takes a little while for newbies to learn the ins and outs of how to use the forum. I myself was one of the members who broke the 10 posts rule, because I couldn't figure out where to go to get the #of posts count. HDR was the one who kindly helped me out with that. There is a bit of a learning curve for the features on the forum. It's more annoying when members continually break the rules and ignore the guidelines.
My personal pet peeves is not trimming quoted messages. It's annoying, especially if there are links or photos in the quoted text. Having to scroll through pages and pages of content to get to the next post is aggravating.
Oh, and posters who don't ever have anything positive to say about anything. To quote my Gram "be nice or be quiet." Constructive criticism is different than just the internet forum equivalent of standing on your soapbox screaming about judgement day. Good grief.
For all you mods do to make this forum a civil place to learn and share about vehicle living, thank you. I appreciate it.

Forums don’t really need moderators I am sure that forums would work without rules, likely wouldn’t get so boring with the same culture that sorts itself out based on the moderators. Give anarchy a chance.
You obviously have little experience.

Even in the early days any public discussion medium without quality moderation quickly became not worth visiting anymore.

Things went completely downhill from September 1993 on, when college kids got access to Usenet, and worse every year since.

Thank you for your service HDR, and also all the mods,

even those who delete my posts without telling me I realize only happens when I deserve it

I miss the thanks button. What happened

what's really annoying is these 3 issues are clearly spelled out in the rules.  either people are not reading the rules or are just outright ignoring them.
I think it's understandable, at least for newcomers.  Most forums out there are identical in function and mostly the same in form, usually with similar rules. CRVL's rules are very unusual. I think it goes to show how many people don't even look at the rules; they probably don't think about the bandwidth limitations... At least at first.

Don't growl. There is a rule somewhere about that.

So maybe it would help to modify the wording of the standard welcome message that the mods post in the Newcomers Corner.

Now it says "here's a bunch of "Tips &Tricks" to help you get the hang of the forum."

Maybe it should say something that sounds less like a suggestion and more like -- "Here are the "Forum Rules" and here's a post of "Tips & Tricks" to help you navigate the forum functions."

After all, 'Rules' and 'Tips' are different things. If something is a rule, it should be advertised as a rule.
