She lived her life as a TV live van for the last eleven years. When she was ready for retirement, I rescued her. At 135k and routine corporate maintenance, she still has a healthy rewarding life ahead of her.

There were 2.5 aluminum computer/equip racks that spanned her middle... I removed all but one. That one is now populated with some surplus drawers, cabinets and the generator power dist control. The generator is a RVQG4000 Onan with about 2,000 hours. She originally worked with a Prosine battery bank and inverter but that was replaced due to poor performance in sub-freezing temps. She stills retains the inactive continuous duty solenoid that I will resurrect with a battery bank. The generator may be pulled and sold when i need the space.

She came insulated and with felt/fleece covered wood panels and a tile-over-wood floor. I pulled the 47' aluminum pneumatic mast and sold it for scrap. The compressor system has been excised.

I built a wood platform bed spanning from the driver front to the rear of the remaining rack. There is ample room beneath for my pelican cases. The under frame spare and mount apparatus was pulled during original buildout. I found an older ford rear tire carrier at a junkyard for $5, hit it with the angle grinder to make it fit, then installed with my $20 junkyard spare. I found a $5 chevy rear ladder and installed.

Future: I've got some surplus Yakima rain gutter rack towers and just need to add some poles to mount kayak rack, bike rack or my yakima space booster box.

I plan to build an insulated box around the generator. Across from the generator, another cabinet/seat of the same height, then i can place another removable sleep platform suitable for one of my kids to camp/travel.

The hole where the mast was removed is temporarily covered. I plan to install a FanTastic up there. A catalytic heater is likely in the future.

I'm undecided what to do with the side hatch... a SMALL window a/c would fit but that is a long way off. More likely, is another fan unit.

The green dark cloth for the curtains came from a 50% sale at Goodwill... $5. The bad sewing job is all me. ;-)

Side panel.

Looks like a fun project. Good luck with it.

Pulled the a/v i/o panel and screened it in with a double layer of poly screen material. Bought a FanTastic Endless Breeze, mounted it just inside screen and wired into power distribution.

$25 Solar Power RV Plumbing Vent fan. I love this thing! It doesn't move much air but it runs continuously (and silently) from solar.

I was able to recharge the salvaged AGM batteries. I wired them in after the continuous duty solenoid mounted under the hood. One battery goes in the box for power dist, the other in the bottom of the rack. I got shore power working again with an auto transfer switch between shore ac or generator. Again, I don't expect to generator to see much, if any, service. I still need to build a upholstered box around the gen housing.

Still working, bit by bit. I was in it the last two nights. With highs around 100F, it is still pretty darned warm until the sun goes down but a nice comfortable 74F when I woke up this morning. A fan does wonders.

We've used small 12v fans, but they can make a nice breeze, especially when there's an open vent at the other end of the van. Using the fan to pull air out of the van seems to work better for us, especially if the incoming vent is larger than the powered vent; or if there are multiple places for the air to come in.

I like what you're doing with it.

Really nice van Paddlingman. I like it and the possibilities...I would love to have a genset like that for emergency running of my well at home...LOL

Let me know if you want to sell it...
Bri
