Well, this van came up and I'm thinking seriously about it. The guy advertises it has a new 350 engine and transmission with only 37,000 miles supposedly new from GM. He said the trans is automatic with an overdrive. (4 spd?)
It's a high top with passenger seats. Sounds almost too good to be true, but he also seems desperate to get rid of it.
Any thoughts?
-Bruce

Id be wondering why it needed a new engine and tranny, if they are properly installed, and what other things might be bad resulting from what ever made them bad.

Thanks Dazargaidin, This is why I'm somewhat skeptical. Anybody know anything about that transmission?
He claims the van is like new.
-Bruce

I've had good luck with Chevys (currently driving a 1988 Chevy pickup with a 47 thousand mile 350 replacement engine (that I bought off the GovtDeals.com site). 350 Chevy engines are the most plentiful, most interchangeable, lowest cost, most reliable. The tough th350 and th400 trannies are also. For better gas mileage, the 700 4 speed automatic is very good.

I guess you can tell what make of van I would buy. No guarantees, and any engine/transmission can go out at any time. Chevys cost less to replace.

Bob

I guess you could take a look at it, drive it, feel if it shifts smooth, manually shift it through all the gears. I dont know what kinda price you are getting, if its up there id tell him i want to take it to a mechanic to check it out (or bring a buddy who is a decent one).

I have a 1990 G10 im in the process of buying off a relative, and it runs great, havent noticed any hard shifting..but i probably have a different (smaller) engine/transmission.
