scrap prices are way down. I bought (2 years ago) a 1987 chevy 1 ton crew cab, with a 6.2L diesel for 500 bucks. I wanted the motor and parted out the rest. with the fire damage I would consider this van a parts van. highdesertranger

What should I do???? Per the contract I signed with Mom and Dad the DODGE needs to be GONE in less than 3 weeks!!! Who will pay the most money for the DODGE in San Jose, CA??????????

I would have listed this rig on CL if already if I have already dismantled everything I want out of it! I need the advice NOW, not at the last minute of after the fact!!!

Ask a fair price for the van and accept any offer that is close to it. If the van isn't running and has a bad transmission and has been on fire twice, I don't think $2,000 is even close to a good starting price and will likely not get you any offers if the van isn't driveable.

Maybe the best way for to price it is to figure out the absolute lowest amount you'll take and add a couple hundred to the price for negotiation. I'd also document everything wrong with the van and make sure the price I'm asking is fair. That's how I buy and sell things. I ignore listings with ludicrous prices and $2000 for a 1986 Dodge van that doesn't drive would not get a call from me.

I would list it immediately for 800 bucks obo. then get on it for getting out what you want. if it comes down to the last minute call the junk man. boy if anybody here needs a high top this would be a great deal. buy the van remove the high top and call the junk man. highdesertranger

A) Get off your ass and go take all the parts off the van, sell the parts you're not keeping and have the body hauled off for scrap for whatever someone will pay for it (your highest paying option).

B) List it on Craigslist with a short as-is description for $800 bucks and let someone talk you down to $650 (about what it's worth and you need it gone).

C) Sit in front of the computer and whine at strangers on the Internet until your parents have to solve the problem for you (your usual MO).

Now Listed on Craigslist:

Take a look. If a user on here wants to buy it I can be extra flexible on the price for CheapRVliving users.

I don't expect to get $1800 for the van, take the one from the thousand place and we get closer to what it's worth (less than $800). Want to get as much as I can for the DODGE van, and can't part it out for several months or wait for the right buyer.

Sounds like a great plan.

Or they could get a good to great condition engine/transmission, swap and out and have a nice running van for the price of a non-operational van (provided they have tools, skill and will). Or seperate the body from frame and either:
a: convert it to a trailer, keeping the cab for extra living space.
b: use it as a farm hauler
c: use the van as a storage shed or stationary housing
d: put the body on a solid drive train and have an great rig for the price of good.
e: turn this van into an art car for BRC.

Less than 5 days to go, need to get all the stuff out of it I want to keep so it's ready for a buyer to drive it away.

Anybody here who wants this rig I can be extra flexible on the price!

Fix the ad, lower the price, and take the first $500 that comes along.

I agree with this with one proviso. Do not strip all the good stuff out, just sell it as is. Otherwise you are trying to sell a non op rolling pile of junk with nothing good left in it? Where is the incentive to buy?
I subscribe to K.I.S.S., and you are over complicating matters. Sell it as is!

a lot of people told you how to sell this van over 3 weeks ago. sell it for cheap it ain't worth much, you are trying to get way to much money for a blown tranny, fire damaged van. if you would have put the ad in for $500 obo 3 weeks ago you wouldn't be in this spot now. or call the scrap man he might give you 100 bucks. highdesertranger

You're right it's not worth much. The goal is the get as much money from the van sale as possible. I will be lucky to get more than $500 for it and the reason I put a higher price is to give me room to negotiate. I just dropped the listed price to $900, and will keep dropping it if inquiries don't pick up. The hard deadline is the end of May 15th, 2016, no more extensions will be granted; which means this van needs to sell in less than 8 days!

Anybody on here want a screaming steal on a conversion van suitable for local vandwelling in San Jose, CA here it is. Mention your CheapRVliving username for a %10 discount on the negotiated selling price.

Edit: Decided to lower the listed price to $800 OBO, as this DODGE van is like a giant weight holding me back from moving into the FORD van.

500 OBO. how many times do I have to say it. have the junk man on standby. actually this close to the dead line I would just call the junk man. highdesertranger

I just looked at the pictures.

That thing is a nightmare

Write a new ad.  High Top Dodge Conversion van.  500 OBO.  As Is.  No details

Take what ever is offered, and make sure they tow it way ASAP!

Most of those pictures have no sales value at all.

All the writing on the ad scares away potential buyers.

Write it up as salvage, best offer IMO.

You best be calling the scrap guy because that can take a few days to organize.
