i'd like to connect a monitor to my laptop for work and tv, etc.

it would be better to find one that can run on 12v than dealing with an inverter if possible.

has anyone found one that can run on 12vdc?

i have one here now that runs on 19vdc, i suppose i could use 2 batteries in series but that sounds like a hassle, and 24v may be too much for it

There are a couple of ways to do this. There are 12v TVs and monitors. The ones I have seen cost more. There are TVs that use bricks to convert 120v to 12v, you can replace the brick with a 12v cord.

Yes using 12v does save compared to using an inverter, my question is will anything else be on the inverter at the same time. We used 12v TVs for a long time until we got a satellite dish. The receiver had to have a inverter so we got a nice 120v flat screen to go with it. The 150w inverter that powers them uses so little that we never shut it off while camping.

i'll probably be charging my laptop at the same time since its a couple of years old and the internal battery isn't that great. but i actually started another thread in the generators and battery forum to ask about my big picture power needs so better not to continue this thread. if the mods want to delete this, pls do, thx

Do a search. All your questions have been answered on other threads.

I hate the search engines in this software and a lot of forums use it :(

Heres is a page that has three adapters that can do what you want.

These can be used on both AC and DC input. I'd go with the 150 Watt just so you have the reserve power if needed for something else.

HUH? counter productive no?

Time for a break

using a 12 volt 19" insignia I found at a garage sale, I have 2 x 1 Tb. drives with a bunch of movies.
19" is perfect for van life.

I have seen the 12v TV/DVD combos at truck stops, quite pricy I might add. Before we got the satellite we used a 15 inch Toshiba that I replaced the brick with a 12v cord.

I purchased an Element 22" TV from Walmart which takes 12v. It has an HDMI input so it works as a monitor. I think I paid $139 for it.
