So after using iPhones for five years am kind of tied into the ecosystem. Lots of tools I like to use are on the device. Plus my iPhone5 is jailbroken, and iPad2 can use a mouse. Combined it's a great system.
Am on verizon right now. With a $100 per month payment for ON CONTRACT iphone5. Popped in a tmobile gsm SIMM and testing tmobile in the $30 per month account. Finding it pretty equivalent. Verizon iPhone5 is factory unlocked and has both CDMA and GSM cellphone circuits.
1). Forwarded my old cell number to the new trial cell number.
2). Verizon has an external text app. That works over data connection. So no loss of texts
3). Tmobile gives you a few voice minutes in the $30 plan. But when on wifi you can use a variety of VOIP apps for phone service at little to no cost, and unlimited duration.
4). You can port your old number to the new tmobile plan. Just need both plans active at the same time. And will cancel your verizon plan.
5). You will pay the END TERMINATION FEE in your contracted iPhone. Whatever is remaining on the plan. Usually $350 minus $10 a month. Do the math. Six months you will have paid off the difference, and then you have a $30 per month plan.
6) am getting 10megs per minute on tmobile for data speed on gsm. People wrongly mention that gsm will be drastically slower than CDMA. Not seeing that at all.
Supposedly you can also get STRAIGHT TALK on gsm SIMM, or CRICKET on gsm SIMM. Those prices might be a little higher at $35 to $45 and using AT&T cellphone towers. If you need that.
For me am sticking with tmobile $30 per month. And can refill that $30 with a 5% to 10% discount depending on buying tmobile refill cards on sale.
