I watched this documentary about sweltering prisoners in hot cells, and those who died in prison due to the extreme heat. This crime is no different than if Alaskan or Micigan prisons had no heat in the winter, and inmates die of hypothermia and frostbite. If they heat the prison in extreme cold they should A/C the prisons in extreme heat. We pay more per prisoner than per welfare recipient and the prisoners in the south should get some A/C, or let them out. Please don't tell these elderly & physically weak prisoners to "tough it out", and please don't get political in this thread.

Here is an article about the documentary.

Another article about this crime:

Better yet, let's stop incarcerating everybody and there mother. I hate the idea of prison. It does nothing but create more violent/smarter criminals. There has to be a better way! People can change, rehabilitation is possible. I worked for Garrett aircraft about 20 years ago and they would hire ex-cons for the maintenance crew. They were all good people who made bad choices. I got to know several of them over a two year period and they changed my way of thinking about incarceration. It doesn't work and its inhumane. Sorry a little passionate about this subject.

AC costs way too much in for-profit prisons! What's wrong with you, don't you believe in Capitalism? (Sarcasm for those who don't know me)

They did have a crude type of air conditioning system, cell ducts would go into the ground.

People don't seem to mind, they get out and come right back.

Prisoners have more rights then you or I, screw em all, let em die! If you can't afford the time, don't do the crime!

I will assume you are making an attempt at being snarky, rather than demonstrating your lack of humanity.

PS--I agree with Walkabout, this thread is probably in the wrong site. Though we van-dwellers should keep in mind that a van in summertime can easily reach temps inside of over 140 degrees, and those conditions are lethal.

Not one to stick up for offenders, but that's a pretty thoughtless comment, i think even you, yourself would agree!

Offenders have next to no rights- They're told what to do; when and where to do it. And who they bunk with.
And what they eat. And where they work.

People are in for all different reasons, some are just deficient and never had a chance-  some did something really dumb when drunk-
many work the umbrella of drug trade and prison is just a career step. Some were batshit crazy and never should've been there in the first place- F ing State would kick mentally ill outa State hospital to save money, then they'd go nuts and do something totally crazy.

Most are going to get out, and be in a neighborhood near you at some point in time.
No matter how you feel about it, you don't want them coming from an environment where they're turned into even more of an animal.

And there's lots worse people who aren't in prison, you can read about them in newspaper everyday.

But yeah, there was a lot of complaining. LoL
