What kind of build can you do for $500? And is it usable? My van might give pause for thought on what's possible. It has six years of adventure under its belt from southern deserts to northern Alaska - and it's been perfect! Here's a look with the full cost breakdown (I priced out what it would...
SOUND TREATMENT, or deadening, is perhaps the biggest MYTH in van conversion, perpetuated by the relentless flow of builds broadcast across social media. For those starting a normal build, here's why sound treatment may NOT be required, beyond doing the conversion to make it into a livable space.
Building a van can be confusing and expensive. I'm hoping this will help ease that for some. The Minimum Viable Build (MVB) Method simplifies it, helping you get it right by revealing what you need and where you need it. It gets you on the road quicker with less stress, less weight, more space -...
I wanted to try van life years ago, but to keep my build simple for several reasons. While “simple” means something different to everyone, continually seeing more beautiful and luxurious builds with extra features made me feel... bad and question myself. If that’s you as well, I made a video for you
I meant to do this video years ago... I was so overwhelmed when planning my layout, I eventually went for a MVB (Minimum Viable Build) approach - and 6 years later... it's worked great! So wanted to share a tour in case it might help anyone get started! Stop worrying, go simple, and you'll...
For charging my electronics (phone, laptop, camera, drone - 20 Wh of stuff) I was going to buy a small CTECH Powerstation - 240 Wh. I rarely sit for more than a day so would only need a couple days juice out of this battery before I'd be driving and able to recharge via the car battery - so...
In the photo below, you can see that I've got some space above my cooler.
I would like to make use of that with some kind of storage to keep a few food items that often get crushed elsewhere like bananas, a loaf of bread, cookies.
I don't like the idea of building in a cabinet as it seems like...
In my van, I have a bed in the very back with bins underneath for lots of storage, but in the front part behind the drivers seat on the floor, I'm going to have several loose items, like a cooler, 2-burner camp stove, and 5 gallon water jug.
I'm curious how people would suggest I secure all...
I was going to use this MDF panelling for my van as it looks real nice:

BUT I've read a bit and some say MDF just won't hold up to the bumping around of van life...
Rather than lino, I've been considering using laminate wood flooring in my van conversion.
It'll be much heavier than lino, so I'm wondering what is the minimal subfloor over the metal floor of the van I could get away with underneath it?
PS> Any other good flooring material suggestions...
I'll be touring around Alaska this summer for a couple months and doing some driving most days and not really sitting in one spot.
Too keep it simple I have decided NOT to install a RV-like battery system.
For lighting, I'm guessing that I'll only need a light for a couple hours a night and...
I'm looking at a Ford E150 and noticed that it doe NOT have the big vertical beams along the cargo area that one would attach wall panelling to. You can see how it looks in the attached photo.
Is it still possible to attach panelling to the walls of a van like this to finish it? What would be...
As some of you may know, I've been looking to get a cargo van for summer travels in which I will build in a simple bed, storage cabinets and put my bicycle in the inside at the very rear.
I live in Canada and have been feeling like I'd want to spend $10000 dollars as it's only going to be used...
I've been looking to get a cargo van for some summer travels with just a simple bed, storage cabinets and my bicycle in the inside at the very rear.
I'm struggling with the question of looking for a van with rear windows and in the side doors vs. none at all.
On one hand I think it'd be nice...
For my simple cargo van setup, I'd like just a bed, some storage, and a refrigerator so I don't have to run to to grocery store every day.
I had this vision that I could just get a cheap 120v bar fridge for $150 and a battery and inverter and maybe a solar panel and be on my way...
I've been...
I'm looking at cargo vans and sometimes come across a nice one - but it doesn't have the rear or side windows.
My gut tells me that I'd at least like the rear windows.
So the question is: how hard is it to install them - I'm thinking maybe I could get some from the auto wrecker and put them...
