Domicile FLA vs. TX for this Northeasterner

Insurance is ridiculous in Orlando. I am stuck here until June 2020 now though. Aside from that, you need a physical address for your concealed weapons permit. They mail the permit to you; which I think is stupid. OTOH, no state inspections, tags can go 2 years but the price is the same as doing...

    Q&A on van living

OPSEC is operational security. Basically, don't advertise things you don't want people to know. Hide things you don't want seen, etc....

    Q&A on van living

    1. Probably my biggest issue - sleeping. How does one get good quality sleep? Currently I have insomnia problems while sleeping in a house so thats my major concern. How have people found sleeping in a van? Any problems? How to make it most comfortable? Build a comfortable bed. For me, light...

    Winter campground hosting

You know, people always mention trees and fireworks. How do you actually get those gigs? I have never had any luck.

    Are you "out there"?

I am all over now. Living in the van and loving it. Had a few cold nights so far this winter though.

Itching to be on the road

Hi Dune. To answer your question, I am here from time to time. I will be stationary for the next few weeks as I explained in a pm at the other site. Welcome.

    Electrical gremlins: brake/indicator stopped working.

Agreed. If you have power, and it doesn't work then either the bulb is bad or there is a bad ground.

Need A Shade Tre Mechanic's Temp Fix

Yeah, been thinking about that. Might as well get them, but it has been raining it's butt off all day. SO only did the pump for now.

Need A Shade Tre Mechanic's Temp Fix

I have made it back to Orlando. I should be fixing it in  the morning. I ran with the cap loose and at night stopping whenever the gauge got over 3/4. Thanks for the great tips everyone.

Need A Shade Tre Mechanic's Temp Fix

The original owner did not run a good mix, at least not when I got it. I did replace all fluids when I bought it though.

Need A Shade Tre Mechanic's Temp Fix

It is not coming out the weep hole. I wish it was. If that was the issue, I would do the 20 gallons of water and run for Norfolk since I am marginally closer to there at this point. It is definitely coming from high at the rear of the pump. A rusted pin hole in the back plate is my guess. I am...

Need A Shade Tre Mechanic's Temp Fix

That isn't a chevy 350 motor there. I am 100% sure it is leaking from the back of the pump. There is a little plate on the back. My first thought was that one of the screws holding the little plate had come loose, but they are tight. There must be a pin hole in the plate itself. The van has 250k...

Need A Shade Tre Mechanic's Temp Fix

No, I didn't try leaving the cap loose. Good idea. The hazard of being a professional tech is that I don't think of stuff like that. I asked at the parts store where I bought the pump. They said they don't allow it. I also puled into a rest area, but a trooper(South Carolina) told me to move...

Need A Shade Tre Mechanic's Temp Fix

Hello all. I have been running around the south east the last few weeks. My water pump developed a leak. I am about 350 miles from anywhere I know I can work on the van without worry of getting towed. The new pump itself is cheap. What I need is a temp fix to get me 1 day's drive to either...

Insuring the contents of our Conversion Van

Weird. When I got my class B the agent specifically told me to insure it as a van because they did not insure RVs. I mean $172 every 6 months isn't bad, but now I need to check with them to see what the deal is as an RV. Thanks.
