Is $2100 too good to be true for an RV in Austin area?

For the 5 or 6 months you'll need, I'd just rough it. Mattress, Loveable Loo (compost bucket), hot plate, toaster oven, small wash tub and a couple of 5 gallon buckets. Even a basic cargo van will do. Anybody can survive being miserable for a few months, although, that wouldn't really be...

    Healthy snacks?

Roasted edamame for me. Very little sodium, fat, or carbs, and full of protein. Munch 'em like a bag of nuts without the guilt! I like whole grain Triscuits instead of chips too.

    Boondocking "Protocols"

Thanks Bob. I was thinking that because a Class C is shorter, that I could make it out to the boonies. I've never driven one, so I didn't know. Thanks for the info, and I'll look forward to the blog post :D

    Boondocking "Protocols"

I've been thinking lately that I'd like to have a little more room, and I've been looking at the Class C's. Does anyone here think that a Class C could get to remote places? That's really where I'd love to stay most of the time.

    Mr Buddy as a stove

Hey eDJ_, not to sound stalkerish or anything, but we're neighbors! My electric doesn't go out that often. I guess it's because I live close to the city.

Seeking Second Opinion on First Van

I'm sorry if I sounded like I was concerned about your finances. That wasn't my intention at all. I was just remembering the new car I bought many years ago, and how much buyer's remorse I had over it. I hated making that and the insurance payment every month. I mean, r e a l l y hated it. Good...

Seeking Second Opinion on First Van

Unless you have a time limit where you have to be living in your van soon, I'd start putting money in a savings account. First, because you're getting a loan, the bank will require that you carry full coverage. If you're a single male, and on the young side, that's going to be terribly...

    Building Hank

I always see a bunch of desks at the two ReStores I go to. You might try going there for something that fits. I was thinking that a solid wood coffee table top would make a nice kitchen counter. I've seen a lot of them that look like they weigh over a hundred pounds :D Anyhoo, good luck in your...

    Do VanDwellers work at Amazon?

I worked at an Amazon call center last year during their Christmas rush. I've had several temp jobs in call centers, and I definitely like Amazon best. There's no stupid script, and they let you "own" the call. You get to do whatever the customer needs, including finding an item from another...

    I almost killed myself today.

I had similar problems with my mother, Chance. The good news is that I survived and got to leave as soon as I was legally able to. You don't have too long to go, and you'll be free as well. Just keep looking forward, make your plans, get a job as soon as possible, and you'll be fine. Don't cut...

Need all of your opinions! -MONEY-

I'm not sure what post you're referring to, but if it was mine, that forum has more than full or part time jobs posted. There are micro-jobs like MTurk as well. Also some sites that pay for you to do surveys. You can work as much or as little as you want to these days. Remote jobs are way more...

    The Amazing 5 Gallon Bucket

I'm amazed that no one has mentioned the Humanure Toilet. Done properly, there's no smell, and you're left with compost for a garden. Here's the link: http://humanurehandbook.com/humanure_toilet.html I'd also add that getting a good food grade bucket with a lid can help you store beans and...

    Boondocking "Protocols"

Regarding starting a blog...Start with a free Blogger account. It's easier than Wordpress. Just start by writing the same as you have right here. Do it daily. Ask to do a guest post on other popular blogs...*hello Bob*...actually, do it on many popular blogs. Or Youtube. Videos are very popular...

    three weeks to go....

I thinkcargovanconversionlf meant that he's not too old for change.  I think that this is just the right age for a drastic change in your life. I'm going on 50 too, and I'm more than fed-up with traditional living.

Why can't you make your humanure toilet with feet? It'll raise it up enough so that you don't have to worry about back pain...

    Free E books

The following site is good for searching Amazon in different countries: http://www.jungle-search.com/US/ On the left, I choose Kindle Store, then Kindle ebooks. On the right, price range from (blank) to 0. Then I click the red button that says click for savings. When Amazon opens up, on the...
