I was listening to the News this morning and it was reported that there are 80 million people affected by this winter storm. Rarely is anything said about the cross section of those same people. So I looked up this data wondering how it
would reflect on those of us Nomads who may be living out in the storm.

Where do you see yourself in these numbers ?

Many dogs love snow. Not so much the cat except when hunting birds which overrides getting cold paws.

Cammie (the pooch) LOVES romping thru the snow, her little short legs are adequate if the snow is less than about 6 inches or so..above that and she just hops like a rabbit.

The cat, Zipper, she wont go out in it voluntarily, until I carry her out there, then she's fine, she discovers the little critters like bunnies and mice are everywhere! She forgets about the snow and just gets down to 'bidness'...

Of course the snow is mostly gone now, a few traces here and there....it's still quite cold...19 degrees this morning.

It is difficult to predict what the weather is like in Western Southern Arizona. That is because it has several strong influencers at work. Storms coming out of the north from Canada, weather coming in from Weat from California off the Pacific and weather coming in from further south from the Pacific down in Mexico. It does not see as many storms coming in from the East, those do not happen very often. This December and January there has been a fair amount of gusty wind from the North NE which is a cooler temperature wind. But it has not brought any rain with it and there is no rain predicted in the next week ahead when the wind is still mostly from the north.
That is a different weather pattern than winter of 2023 and 2024 when the wind and rain came out of the West from that very active atmospheric river system that was flooding California. That state is just not getting a break. First too much rain and high elevation snows, now this winter it is hot dry winds spreading devastating fires. Like some of those biblical tales of punishments on the lands and peoples. Hopefully major earthquakes and tsunamis are not in the next round for California.

Next week Quartzsite, in the early morning hours, will see lows in the 30s. Fortunately that happens just before sunrise until a an hor or so after. The daytime temps are well above freezing. But there will be some wind chill as well. I do not have any pipes in danger of freezing🙂

I did notice an exodus of RVs this week, maybe heading further south? It will be warmer down by Yuma.

Snowing hard here today. In the last hour we've got about an inch of snow. May get between 3 to 5 inches. Can only wait to see what DC gets by tomorrow.

AccuWeather:

Snowstorm on the way for Washington, D.C.

A storm will swing up from the southern United States and bring a period of accumulating snow to Washington, D.C., Sunday and Sunday evening. The storm may begin as a mixture of rain and snow morning. From 1 to 3 inches is forecast for the Capital District with greater amounts just to the north. Roads and sidewalks can become slippery soon after the storm begins. Areas made wet can freeze on Monday as winds increase and temperatures plummet with a long-lasting blast of Arctic air and dangerously cold conditions for the rest of the week. Conditions will result in the coldest Inauguration Day since 1985.

2 degrees here this morning at 6am, but by noon it's 26 degrees.

Tonight it is supposed to go below "0" and perhaps as low as -4.

Fortunately we are in for a warm up by Thursday. (a lot of snow melt and rising water in streams, creeks, and the Ohio River. And that will be coming south as flood waters in a week or so.

Hopefully, everyone's rigs will be high and dry by then.

Cool in the desert in the shade of the saguaros, around 50 degrees but will get closer to 60 degrees today.

Currently only 52 and breezy where I'm camped N of Yuma, just SW of Picacho Peak. Was planning to go for a ride, but might hike instead, since I don't think it will get much warmer. Crazy gusty winds here yesterday and last night... very tough to sleep.
