Oregon's Beautiful Coast
Hi everyone! My name is Caleb. I'm 22 years old and grew up on the beautiful Oregon Coast. A few years ago I developed some pretty intense allergies and skin conditions. After a harsh winter of many diets, lifestyle changes, and hearing different doctors diagnoses (without the aid of health insurance, truly the only debt I've obtained in my life) I discovered that the best remedy is simply SUNSHINE. I promised myself to never go through a winter of darkness here again. It's amazing the transformation my overall health and wellbeing go through dependent on that one factor. About this time last year I was fed up and left town with my buddies' band. Their last tour date was in Austin, TX and I just decided to stay there for the winter/spring. It was one of the better decisions I've made. But I'm not really into being completely homeless anymore. It's a great life, but you sacrifice comfort and security majorly. I respect having a sanctuary so much now. And I love Oregon so much, but I can only handle being here for the summer. So van dwelling sounds like the right lifestyle for me. Mobile sanctuary! South for the winter, north for the summer. Like a bird!
Last summer I was convinced by some friends to do some wild land firefighting for a company out of Eugene and hopefully make enough cash to buy a box or step van, and even though this fire season wasn't the record breaking year everyone anticipated (it's funny when your employment is dependent on a bad thing), I searched and searched and found what I was dreaming of in my price range. It's a 1990 Ford f350 7.3 Liter Diesel 14' Uhaul with a Cabover. You can keep along with my build progression here: https://vanlivingforum.com/Thread-Uhaul-Super-Stealth-Box
So yeah, that's the gist of my story. Thought I'd introduce myself on here. I've been creeping on this forum for a little while now, absorbing a lot of information. Thanks everyone for sharing the knowledge. This websites like a whole book.

Congrats on the purchase of your future home on wheels. I'm tempted to buy something like that myself. Here in Vegas there are ALOT of people moving in & out of town so they are always selling those trucks. I'm always trolling the U-Haul stores in town for a bargain on one of those trucks. Those make a great platform for customizing a great home on the go. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

I like your truck. I can see I would love doing a project like that.
Good Luck,

Hey Caleb. Nice to see you finally posting up.

(Caleb is my son's buddy, and a really nice kid. I've been telling him he needs to be on here, so it's nice to see that he's finally taken my advice.)

.....now, if I kin only get my son to follow my advice!!! :p

Welcome Caleb!

@ Patrick46...if I work on your son will you work on mine?? Some people's kids *smile*!

Ha....I just ran into Caleb's Dad at the grocery store....and he's almost as excited about the rig and helping build it as Caleb is!!!

How cool is that!! :D

Thanks everyone :)
And thanks for the good word Patric. Your son's doing alright though. Helped me out a real good amount the other night on the build. Definitely one of the few go-getters I know. Happy we've been friends for so long.

Welcome to the tribe, Caleb!
I've only been to Oregon once, but fell in love with it. I also lived in NoCali for a bit several years ago. Once I hit the road, I definitely plan to summer in OR or (second choice) NoCali.

28 years in SoCali is just waaay too long! :D
