I know this comment won't want to be heard, but this issue should have been worked out ahead of time before so many people came. A lot of people have been inconvenienced, most of whom probably didn't know what they were getting into, and who are now forced to move.

Gee, boo hoo for them.  It seems to me that having all the modern aids for the mobile travellers is a bit much.  What did people do before GPS,cell phones,numerous online forums for 'the latest updates' for every little detail about what they may encounter?

If QZ attendees can't handle a little inconvenience and aren't able to change to Plan B or Plan X, maybe they should just stay home.

Poop is the Achilles Heel of YARC camp, the caravans, and the van life fantasy movement in general. It's clear the BLM is starting to crack down, and they're likely getting more critical of people breaking the established rules. Otherwise everything turns into chaos, because everyone is doing whatever the hell they want to do. We as individuals have to try to create fewer problems before it all erupts in our faces.

The LOCAL rangers allowed the Portables last year

Can't get the link to open, but states 10 gallon black tank to be considered self contained at BLM LTVA. Does not specify any other equipment to be hooked up to it that I could see. Am I correct to assume that you can still dump your bucket in the vaults?  -crofter

a. In Pilot Knob, Midland, Tamarisk,
and Hot Spring LTVAs, you may camp only in self-contained
camping units. The La Posa, Imperial Dam, and Mule Mountain
LTVAs are restricted to self-contained camping units, except
within 500 feet of a vault toilet or rest room.

b. Self-contained camping units must have a permanent affixed
waste water holding tank of 10-gallon minimum capacity. BLM does
not consider port-a-potty systems, systems that utilize portable
holding tanks, or permanent holding tanks of less than 10-gallon

Sounds like composting toilets are not legal there. Also the portable black tanks illegal. They want everyone to drive to the dump station and use water in the black tank.   -crofter

NO you can not dump your bucket into the vault toilets. that has NEVER been acceptable. last year I posted a picture of the sign the have at the vaults that specifically deals with this. I will repost it.

I want everyone to pay particular attention of the approved methods of waste disposal.  notice that it doesn't say bagging your waste and throwing it in the trash is OK or for that matter digging a cat hole or throwing it in the bushes.  please follow the rules.

I made a post about the rangers kicking people out of YARC camp. Then a Ranger read this post, and within 10 minutes, he drove out to YARC camp, and kicked people out. Duh.

Well we have a winner. Give the kid a Kewpie doll.

The porta pottie cleanouts in our park have a large diameter deep dished stainless steel bowl with a center drain about 3' off the ground which makes dumping and cleanup much easier. They are clearly marked for porta potties only, human waste only, no plastic garbage bags.

I've only ever noticed those porta-potti dump places at boat marinas, no doubt to service the boaters, and where are also facilities for cleaning fish. I assume yours is the similar situation. I don't believe they have those at La Posa South.

I have seen those along popular river rafting rivers. actually I have also seen automated ones called a "Scat Machine" the ones I have seen where set up for 20MM rocket can toilets. see the link,

amazingly enough those are made in Frenchglen, Oregon.

LOL there is not much in Frenchglen but I guess there are blacksmiths. don't get me wrong Frenchglen is a beautiful little town, I love it.

These units are designed to be used remotely and some come mounted on trailers might be a good suggestion to make to the BLM or HOWA if they want to buy/use remote locations. River rafters/boaters have managed with government agencies and they are becoming common as a way to deal with human waste. The first on water pump out stations on Lake Powell were a result of public donations and pressure on the park service by boaters as no one wants to be somewhere that sanitation problems are not or can not be handled properly. BLM land is your land and everyone needs to insure it is well managed and taken care of.

The one thing that amazes me here is so many people either rip out the existing RV toilet and black tank or just prefer a bucket. Me? Give me something that flushes any day.

If you have a 10 Gallon black tank, you can still use a blue buddy portable tank to transfer it to and then take it to the dump station.

Seems there may be a business model here...
