So... <img border="0" align="absmiddle" src="https://vanlivingforum.com/images/boards/smilies/rolleyes.gif"> Yes, that happened. I hooked my mppt charge controller up to my batteries, and it was only showing .4 amps from two full batteries, and zero volts. A little odd, but I left it to see if it was just adjusting or something. Well, I went to hook up my solar panel (not under load), and about 30 seconds after I connected the second solar panel wire, a small point on the charge controller board started to glow blue. I disconnected the battery as fast as I could, but it had bloomed into a nice electric smelling flame by the time I had the battery post out. As soon as I disconnected one of the battery terminals it disappeared. I can only think it was because there was a short somewhere in the charge controller. I'm going to try and get it returned as defective, but in the mean time, could this possibly be my fault? I don't think there was anything wrong with my wiring. It had a chassis ground, a catastrophe fuse... what else could cause that?
