I built something similar for backpacking/trekking.
Five gallon paint can, large pasta sauce can and a soup can at the bottom, works like a charm!

Just my opinion, but the design seems rather... odd. Where does the wood go in? I'll stick to the standard Rocket Stove: http://www.theresilientfamily.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Rocket-Stove.jpg The best and lightest insulation (placed between the cans) is perlite. If your scrounged outer can is about 7" in diameter, the top can be covered with the pan that goes under a regular electric or gas stove burner (the small one). And simple bail handle is nice, too.

Yea mine is basically a wood fired rocket :)

I've built small rocket stoves and small updraft gasifier stoves. The most effective system is definitely a forced air updraft gasifier stove. It's actually amazing how well they can be made to work. A small 12v fan can be used with a rheostat to control the output. Here is a good product: http://www.silverfire.us/super-dragon-fan-stove - Or, build your own () - although, this needs forced air for best results. Adding a draft makes all the difference.

Review of product:

NOTE: No cooking with wood inside a van (fuel gas is CO).

No cooking with wood inside a van UNLESS THE DOOR IS OPEN.

Not that it's a great idea (esp if you have a gas leak), but some decent brain activity and knowing how things work will go a long way toward preventing problems.

Pretty simple thing posting pictures
My grand kids even know how to do it  :D
