But I'm sure 54 is nothing compared to Idaho!

Well, checking on the weather - it is 30 degrees out right now, and thankfully not precipitating because if it was, it would probably be white. It will go down as far as 26 degrees tonight. That's really not bad. I start freaking out because of the cold when it gets down to 10 degrees with a wind chill factor.

I also don't like how it snows then the street stays icy and snowy for days as it won't melt, and people just drive on it like everything's normal. Those days, I will try to stay indoors. At least when I lived in Northern California, the streets could be cleared off between snow storms.

Here in North Idaho I've seen people drive out of the driveway next door (an apartment complex) and then suddenly start spinning on the ice. Also one night saw cars stuck on the ice in front of my apartment, unable to move in the middle of the night.

I have learned how to order food online for those times I really don't want to go out at all - I can order pizza delivered, or organic food delivery, or jet.com or from Amazon.

Hello! Soon to be vanner here! I'm actually hoping to buy my van in the next week and plan to hit the road the end of April.

I live in Phoenix and I just don't understand how people deal with seasons! [emoji23] We have "hot" and "not as hot". I'm definitely going to be one of those travel with the weather people!

you are almost there! what make and model? i'm so jealous ;-)  Good weather is paramount.

I'm probably going to travel alone unless my friend is able to travel when I am. I am already living in the Pacific Northwest... so not far to go to get to Oregon or California. I expect to get a Ford van... and would like to get the floor ready before I leave North Idaho, but the rest can be done as I travel. No hurry on any of it. I'll be sleeping on a roll-away kind of bed that I can push to the side during daytime hours. That floor space is valuable!

Oh, I'll be in California next year too if all goes according to plan. It is my home state - I left in 2013 after 61 years of living there. I was born in Oakland. Anyhow, I have a blog called "Journey! California" and I want to write more articles for it. I've been saving this project for my retirement years ... the plan was to travel and write, and finally I have this opportunity. :)

Now that you mention it - I just saw a nice van with a storage section next to and under the bed. It looked awesome ... something I might try if I ever get good at woodworking ... which right now I know almost nothing about it. However, you never know - maybe desperation will motivate me to learn how to fix up my van.

i  love hearing about success stories so i hope you get your van real soon. i took a quick peek at your blog. i will revisit another time - love reading about my home state. I lived there many years but didn't travel much.

you'll learn from your woodworking friend and building tools are easy to use. i guess cutting angles would be the most difficult for me.

we are having a blustering snow storm now here in the East Coast. I bet you don't miss those lol  be careful in California during this horrific fire season!
