I have a doctors appt the 22nd and the 24th of this month, I checked the connections on my scooter lift and they don't match a four pin or anything I found online. It is actually 2 two pin connections, one for license light and one for up and down for ramp. Does anyone have any idea if a mechanic could change the connectors to match?

The connectors look more heavy duty to my untrained eye. I need to be able to interchange the lift and the hitch for trailer. I tried to get a decent picture but failed. Any suggestions?

adaptors can be made for anything. sounds like you just need a adaptor or just cut off the one connector one your lift and wire it into a trailer plug. highdesertranger

Brand and model of the lift?  You don't have instructions for it?  Are you sure it's supposed to hook up to a trailer connection?  There's a good possibility it needs more power than a trailer connector is wired to supply . . .

so I just glance though the instructions. the lift should come with a vehicle side wire harness, did yours? hook the harness up to the vehicle it goes directly to the battery this powers the lift and has the correct connector. highdesertranger

it did, it was wired and when I bought the trailer I had the wiring split (or so I thought ) so I could just switch out. But there is a standard four plug there and It's not going to work. I can buy a standard manual ramp for 150 and just strap the damn thing in. No big deal.

the wire harness for the lift is separate from the trailer harness. the harness for the lift is a 2 plug and does not match any trailer harness. highdesertranger

It may still be there, I did not see it while climbing as far under the truck I could get. I don't know if the mechanic snipped the lift wire and put in the 7 pin or what he did. It waas too late to call him and ask, he may not even remember. No matter, I'll figure it out.

A Plan has arisen. I have Cen-Tech power pac to start cars, if I trim a bit of wire and connect it directly to the lift do you think it would work, temporarily until I am rich again and can take it to a shop.

Well, ****, Gunny, I wish I'd come your way today instead of going van shopping, I probably could have got that done for you
The power pack might work, if you know which wire is supposed to be 'hot' and which is the ground, it might even be that hot to one = chair up hot to the other + chair down?

There are only two, hot and ground. There is another connection but it's for the license plate light. I can get it going just for the few times I need it this month, but thanks Art.

I decided to bite the bullet and get the wiring repaired now instead of trying to device some way to load the scooter. Took it to the mechanics' shop I frequent, Autoworx in Mansfield Tx., and let them straighten things out. Once he got it on the lift he (and I) discovered the problem(s). The mechanics in Yuma who worked their ***** off to get me going, used a combination of original truck wiring and power from the lift harness, cutting the odd little connector it had.

First let me say I am in no way criticizing the guys in Yuma, were it not for them I would have been stuck for a couple of more days. They did great.

The mechanic here took out all of the makeshift wiring and started over. He used a heavier gauge wire to power the lift so hopefully no problems. Made my two Dr.'s appointments and didn't have to use the loaner wheelchair at the VA. Even got my shrink to up my Xanax a notch, my temper lately has been horrible. I blame it on nerves but could just be I am getting to be a grouchy old fart.

He also modified a 7 pin connector to use for my lift.

I also, just for the hell of it, tried to muscle the 90 pound lift out of the pickup bed and onto the hitch. Thank god there was noone videoing me. It was a two Tramadol night when I got home.

I was charged a very reasonable rate.

I also stopped by Maaco and got an estimate for the trucks damage, it would be a total if I filed a claim. I will just live with the dent.

Now to make friends with a couple of the large gentlemen I see around the complex because one of the many things I learned is " I Fought The Lift and The Lift Won".
