I decided to bite the bullet and get the wiring repaired now instead of trying to device some way to load the scooter. Took it to the mechanics' shop I frequent, Autoworx in Mansfield Tx., and let them straighten things out. Once he got it on the lift he (and I) discovered the problem(s). The mechanics in Yuma who worked their ***** off to get me going, used a combination of original truck wiring and power from the lift harness, cutting the odd little connector it had.
First let me say I am in no way criticizing the guys in Yuma, were it not for them I would have been stuck for a couple of more days. They did great.
The mechanic here took out all of the makeshift wiring and started over. He used a heavier gauge wire to power the lift so hopefully no problems. Made my two Dr.'s appointments and didn't have to use the loaner wheelchair at the VA. Even got my shrink to up my Xanax a notch, my temper lately has been horrible. I blame it on nerves but could just be I am getting to be a grouchy old fart.
He also modified a 7 pin connector to use for my lift.
I also, just for the hell of it, tried to muscle the 90 pound lift out of the pickup bed and onto the hitch. Thank god there was noone videoing me. It was a two Tramadol night when I got home.
I was charged a very reasonable rate.
I also stopped by Maaco and got an estimate for the trucks damage, it would be a total if I filed a claim. I will just live with the dent.
Now to make friends with a couple of the large gentlemen I see around the complex because one of the many things I learned is " I Fought The Lift and The Lift Won".
